Save Barron Trump

About

Save Barron Trump is a social media campaign to rescue Barron Trump from his father Donald Trump due to rumors that Barron dislikes and disagrees with his family. In June 2020, Twitter users began circulating a Roblox account rumored to belong to Barron, with many finding the profile's bio to be endearing. Though the creator of the account was subsequently revealed to be someone else, TikTokers continued to produce videos about rescuing Barron from the White House.

Origin

On June 14th, 2020, Twitter user @evelinkrol^[1] posted a screenshot of a Roblox profile with the caption, "apparently the this is donald trumps sons roblox account we have to save him omg his bio hes adorable wtf look how sad he looks, first we save adam then we save barron trump" (shown below). The tweet gained over 6,200 likes and 660 retweets in four days.

Precursor

Previous to the Roblox account being "leaked," Barron Trump has been singled out as the black sheep of the Trump family since Trump's inauguration in 2016. For example, Twitter account @WORLDSTAR tweeted a video of Barron rolling his eyes during Trump's inauguration speech (shown below). The video received over 4,100 likes and 2,200 retweets in four years.

Spread

On June 16th, 2020, TikTokers began to post videos responding to the hashtag and sympathizing with Barron Trump. TikToker @awesomely.h0echelle posted a video listening reasons why Barron should be saved and received over 952,800 likes in two days (shown below).

That day, Twitter users continued to add reasons to believe Barron Trump is unhappy with his family. For example, Twitter user @waitaminnette^[2] posted an alleged screenshot of a deleted Barron Trump tweet asking to be saved (shown below). The tweet gained over 14,700 likes and 2,200 retweets in two days.

On June 17th, TikTokers began posting green screen memes of themselves rescuing Barron Trump from the White House. For example, @sophiecooksey posted on that accumulated over 323,100 likes in a day (shown below, left). That same day, TikToker @idontsmokeipromise posted a video about a rumor that the government shut down Roblox due to Barron's presence (shown below, right). The video garnered over 270,300 likes in a day. The Change.org^[4] petition which read "This petition is to save Barron Trump from his family, he is obviously depressed and is 100% a leftist and we feel bad for him #savebarron2020 also I heard he likes Kpop and anime. Name one Republican who likes either of those things. Anyways we can save him from his racist, homophobic, and rapist of a father sign this petition pls and thx" was deleted by Change.org after receiving over 5,000 signatures.^[3]

On June 18th, Twitter user @sabella165^[5] confirmed that the Roblox account was not Barron Trump's with a screenshot of the account's edited bio (shown below). The Daily Dot,^[6] Slate^[7] and Forbes^[8] covered the social media campaign.
