Silver Kanye West refers to pictures of Kanye West taken while he was in complete silver body paint as part of his opera Mary. The pictures began being parodied following their publication.
Origin
On December 8th, 2019, Kanye West debuted his opera Mary,[1] a retelling of the birth of Jesus Christ, on a floating barge at Art Basel Miami. The opera features West and other cast members in full silver outfits and body paint.
Spread
Shortly after pictures of West at the performance were posted online, commenters began poking fun at West's look. Twitter user @Jbillinson[2] made a Skull Cow joke, gaining over 100 retweets and 500 likes (shown below, left). User @netw3rk[3] posted a parody of West's lyrics from "Power," gaining over 490 retweets and 5,000 likes (shown below, right).
Other users were reminded of CeeLo Green's Gold Grammys Outfit, comparing the two artists. User @theretrospectre[4] made a photo edit placing the pair on the covers of Pokémon Gold and Silver (shown below, left). User @zZToastieTV[5] posted a joke that the two characters would battle (shown below, right).
