About

Are We Dating The Same Guy?, also abbreviated as AWDTSG, refers to a series of social media pages and groups across Facebook and Reddit where women share screenshots of men's dating profiles they matched to seek the opinion of other women who may have dated the same man in the past or are currently dating. The first group was created on Facebook in March 2022, amassing more than 3 million members across many different groups. The groups expanded to other social platforms in 2025 and are all moderated by volunteers, spawning a series of debates regarding uncovering cheating, violence and any tea on a possible partner. The many AWDTSG groups also sparked debates regarding the authenticity of some of the claims shared about the men exposed, leading to lawsuits and backlash.

History

The Washington Post[1] suggests the likely origin of the Are We Dating The Same Guy?[2] groups date back to March 2022 after the West Elm Caleb incident went viral, which centered around an alleged serial dater who dated and ghosted a significant amount of women in New York City via the online dating app Hinge (AWDTSG group description on Facebook is seen below)

About this group This group is a place for women to support and empower other women while sharing information to protect each other from men who might exhibit any type of toxic or dangerous behavior. There are three main uses of this page: -It can be used to inquire about someone you're dating or may potentially date to see if anyone has had any experiences with them and give other women the chance to share relevant information. -It can be used as a place where women can warn other women about liars, cheaters, abusers, or any men who exhibit any type of toxic or dangerous behavior. -This is a welcoming space where women can ask for advice and relationship support, as well as post stories, memes, or anything else dating related that can help bring us together, keep us safe, or help us feel less alone. This is an official group that is linked to the "Are We Dating The Same Guy?" App. We strongly encourage you to join the App once you have been approved into this group. It's completely free for all members! You can find the download links at https://www.arewedatingthesameguy.com For the safety of others, do not screenshot or share anything you see in this group. We have very strict rules against showing anything from this group to anyone outside of this group, as well as speaking about this group publicly. Anyone caught violating these rules will be banned. We do our best to keep this space as safe as we can, but we can't guarantee that something said in the group won't be leaked by another member. Please be mentally prepared for this possibility when posting here. The "Are We Dating The Same Guy?" App blocks screenshots and has other countermeasures to help prevent these issues. Feel free to post anonymously if the option is available for your account. We will never reveal anyone's identity to anyone when something is posted anonymously. Members are expected to be accepting, inclusive, and supportive. We do not tolerate any bullying, shaming, victim blaming, racism, or aggressive behavior. This group is about protecting and empowering women. Not judging men. We ban members who make mean spirited or judgmental comments based on looks, age, occupation, etc. We manually vet every profile requesting to join this group. Please make sure enough details are publicly visible on your profile for us to ensure your account is definitely real prior to submitting a member request or your request will be denied. We're completely run by a small team of volunteers. Please be patient with the admin and moderators. Try to keep in mind that we donate our free time to help other women and have jobs and lives outside of this. We can't be available 24/7 nor can we answer every message sent to us.

According to the article, the AWDTSG groups began to appear within a few months after other women shared details about similar experiences with the serial dater. The group was created on Facebook and "sought to operate with a 'Fight Club'-like covertness; a primary rule of membership in the groups was not to talk about the groups," the Washington Post explained.

As of March 20th, 2025, the AWDTSG movement also inspired an official website[3] and application dedicated to "help women navigate the dating landscape by providing resources, real experiences, and a strong community that looks out for one another," as the site details.
