About
Instagram Yearbook Pages refers to a trend in which high schools, unable to create tangible yearbooks due to coronavirus-related school cancellations, instead create an Instagram page for graduating seniors where each post highlights a senior's post-graduation plans, senior quote, etc.
History
Instagram pages for specific high school graduating classes affected by COVID-19 began appearing in April of 2020. One of the earliest pages was created by Dunwoody High School in Georgia, which began posting yearbook entries for graduating seniors on April 9th, 2020.[9] On Twitter, Conestoga High School senior Ariana Mendoza,[2] who runs the page for her school,[1] said she partnered with The Spoke to help create the page.
Other high schools to have specific "yearbook" pages include Broadneck High School,[3] Hempstead HS,[4] Northsprings HS,[5] Plainville HS[6] and many others.
Online Presence
On April 28th, 2020, New York Times journalist Taylor Lorenz[7] tweeted about the trend, gaining over 470 retweets and 4,500 likes (shown below).
Two days later, the New York Times published an article she wrote about the trend (featured posts shown below).[8]
