The tool was released on December 27th, 2024, and began gaining traction online in subsequent days. The trend is inspired by Spotify Wrapped, a feature introduced to the music streaming app in 2016 that similarly summarizes a user's history and behavior.

Origin

The idea of a "Twitter Wrapped" was floated around the site in early December 2024, as seen in a December 4th post by user @Kulfei,^[1] who wrote, "I WANT A TWITTER WRAPPED," and a December 5th post by @coupjeonghae_,^[2] who posted a Spotify Wrapped edit featuring two members of the K-pop band Seventeen.

The X account ExaAILabs^[3] made a post announcing their "2024 Twitter Wrapped" tool^[4] on December 26th, 2024, writing, "Exa-powered AI finds your favorite topics, top tweets, and even whether you’ve been naughty/nice 😈." The post gathered over 1,000 likes in a day.

Several X users shared the results of their Twitter Wrapped on December 27th, 2024, as seen in a post by X / Twitter user @wifekisser303,^[5] who wrote, "my twitter wrapped has me eyeing the toaster," receiving over 140 likes in less than a day.

Also on December 27th, X^[6] user @MandoDoesStuff also posted a section of their Twitter Wrapped, gathering over 100 likes in a day.

YCombinator CEO and President Garry Tan^[7] also shared his Twitter Wrapped on December 27th, 2024, gathering over 100 likes in a day on a tweet that read, "Here is my 2024 Twitter Wrapped! Society is about to be supercharged by AGI so it’s no mistake that charting a path for policy that paves the way for legalizing math, merit and prosperity has been on my mind."

However, some X users criticized Twitter Wrapped after learning that it operated using AI technology. On December 27th, 2024, X^[8] user @slimeyness posted a Sponge Bob meme to indicate that they thought Twitter Wrapped "stunk."

Also on December 27th, X^[9] user @courtsidekenny quoted the original Exa AI Labs announcement post, writing, "(Everyone hates ai until it's wrapped in cute clothes 😂🥴)."
