Stormpilot, also referred to as FinnPoe, is a nickname given to the slash pairing of Finn and Poe Dameron, two characters introduced in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, the seventh film and the first installment in the sequel trilogy of the Star Wars saga.

Origin

One of the earliest known mentions of the slash pairing can be found in a fan speculation thread about a possible romantic relationship between Finn and Rey, the protagonist of the film, submitted to /r/StarWars^[26] by Redditor Asajj66 on September 17th, 2015. In response to the question from the original poster (OP), Redditor MagicWalrusO_o replied:

Throughout September and October 2015, more speculations about a potentially bromantic relationship between Finn and Poe Dameron began to circulate on Star Wars fan forums and communities. On October 10th, StarWarsNewsNet forum member Darth Quindow^[25] raised the possibility of romance between Finn and Poe in a thread titled "The Official Finn Discussion."

Following the release of the last official trailer for The Force Awakens on October 20th, the fans' speculation surrounding Finn and Poe's bromance rapidly snowballed into a popular subject of shipping across various fanfiction and fan art communities, most notably on Tumblr, DeviantART and Fanfiction.net.

In the months leading up to the premiere of The Force Awakens in December 2015, dozens of anticipatory fan art illustrations and fan fictions shipping the two characters continued to surface on the aforementioned sites under the hashtags FinnxPoe^[30], FinnPoe^[5][7][9] and Stormpilot^[6][8][10], as well as a number of fan blogs^{[11][12][13][14][15][16][17]} dedicated to the slash pairing on Tumblr. In addition, the emerging fandom behind the "Stormpilot" ship has been covered by various entertainment news sites and geek culture blogs, including BuzzFeed^[19], Bustle^[20][21], MTV^[28], The Mary Sue^[30] and The Independent^[27], among many others.
