Overview

CHANGED is a Chinese indie video game in which the player plays a human stuck in an abandoned laboratory, where he must avoid latex monsters while attempting to escape alive. The game features multiple horror-themed elements, with the horror theme stemming from having to survive without getting caught, and has themes of transformation fetishes as well. CHANGED has received mostly positive reviews, most of which stem from the furry community. The game is created in RPG Maker and was released to Steam on April 4th, 2018. ^[1]

Gameplay

CHANGED involves a human boy (Lin) who finds himself lost in an derelict building. Among the way are latex monsters that will attempt to attack Lin and take control of his body. CHANGED features no RPG elements despite being made in RPG Maker, but it does include a lot of puzzle and stealth elements. The ultimate goal is to escape the building alive.

Reception

Following the release, the game gained significant attention from furry audiences. CHANGED has recieved a Very Positive (92%) rating on Steam out of 2,295 reviews, as of April 7th, 2020.^[1]

Online Presence

On June 25, 2018, Neco The Sergal uploaded "All Transfurs / Transfurmations / Deaths / Game Overs (In English) | Changed" to Youtube, featuring all of the game over screens in CHANGED at the time. While the video initially was unknown, it was suddenly recommended to others circa 2019 by YouTube's reccomendation algorithm for unknown reasons. The video has about 651,600 views and 10,300 likes as of April 7th, 2020 (shown below).

On June 1st, 2018, a subreddit "/r/ChangedGame"^[2] for the game was created, gaining over 440 followers, with another subreddit "/r/ChangedFurry" being created twelve days later, gaining over 606 followers.^[3] On June 6th, 2018‎, a wiki was created for the game on Wikia. ^[4]

Puro is a non-playable character from the indie video game CHANGED, who assists the player to help escape from the building. Puro has gained popularity from the furry fanbase and has spawned jokes about being made of Flex Seal. ^[5] The character has also gained popularity as usage as a common internet avatar.
