About
Epstein is a survival video game by GalaxyVerse released on Steam on February 16th, 2024. The game is inspired by the crimes of Jeffrey Epstein, although refers to his character as simply "Jefry." The goal is for players to survive on Epstein Island, with the ultimate goal of "confronting Jefry in his grand temple." Prior to its release, Epstein became the subject of reactions and memes anticipating its launch.
History
On January 18th, 2024, the Gverse(GVR) YouTube[1] channel posted a trailer for their upcoming game Epstein, garnering over 1,300 views in a month (shown below, left). On February 1st, they released a gameplay trailer to YouTube,[2] garnering over 3,700 views in two weeks (shown below, right).
Epstein was officially released on Steam[3] on February 16th, 2024.
Online Presence
Pre-Release
Prior to the release of Epstein, social media users began reacting to its impending release date. On January 27th, 2024, X[4] user @ShitpostRock posted a screenshot of the game's Steam icon, writing, "GOTY 2024 dropping soon boys," garnering over 18,000 likes in two weeks (shown below). On January 29th, Redditor u/justcurious_- made a post to /r/Gamingcirclejerk[5] about the game, writing, "we got an Epstein island game before GTA 6," garnering over 250 upvotes in the same span of time.
On February 15th, X[6] user and YouTuber SomeOrdinaryGamers shared an image of the game's Steam page, writing, "game of the year drops in less than 24 hours," garnering over 33,000 likes in a day (shown below).
