About
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a game developed by Nintendo for the Switch system, released on March 3rd, 2022. The game, a follow-up to Kirby Star Allies, features Kirby in a new environment that is similar to Earth. The game features a new cast of villains and powers, such as Elfilin, many of which spawned their own memes or fan art online.
History
On September 23rd, 2021, the Nintendo YouTube account uploaded the trailer[1] for Kirby and the Forgotten Land shortly following the Nintendo Direct that debuted it, with the trailer earning over 3.3 million views in 10 months (shown below).
On March 3rd, 2022, Kirby and the Forgotten Land was released for the Nintendo Switch.
Online Presence
The game received immediate online impact after the release of the trailer, with multiple memes being made as it got closer to the release date on March 3rd, 2022. Upon release, Kirby and the Forgotten Land received an 85 percent rating on Metacritic[2] and a 97 percent on Google Reviews.[3]

Elfilin
Elfilin is a character and animal companion from the game. The character follows the series formula of giving Kirby a cute animal companion to tail him throughout the adventure, similar to Marx and Ribbon from previous games. Memes began being made of the character shortly after their introduction, with the majority of Kirby players convinced that the character was secretly evil.
Kirby Fishing
Kirby Fishing refers to a scene from the trailer showing Kirby sitting waterside with a fishing pole and hat. Upon release of the trailer, the scene sparked a wave of fan art and image macros using Kirby fishing as an exploitable in memes.
Kirby's Mouthful Mode
Kirby's Mouthful Mode is a new ability that was added for this game in which Kirby is unable to fully absorb and integrate something into his being, instead simply stuffing them into his mouth and then functioning as the object itself. Mouthful Mode spawned a large series of memes from object labeling to exploitable to fan art.
Clawroline
Clawroline is a female leopard boss enemy found in the game. Though shown briefly in February 2022, the character immediately received a large amount of Rule 34 fan art as well as memes, being one of the first Waifu characters from modern Kirby.
