Metalocalypse is an animated tv series created by Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha. It premiered on Adult Swim on August 6, 2006. The show centers around the death metal band Dethklok. The show almost without exception depicts morbid, dark and, macabre content, including violence, death, murder, suicide, and black humor. Metalocalypse can be seen as both a mockery or parody as well as a celebration of Heavy Metal.

Dethklok

Dethklok, the death metal band featured in Metalocalypse is both a virtual band and a real band. The real life Dethklok provides the music for the animated series, and it consists of Brendon Small, Mike Keneally, Gene Hoglan, and Bryan Beller. They have release two albums, The Dethalbum and The Dethalbum II, and are currently working on a third, The Dethalbum III.

The band depicted as characters in the show consist of Nathan Explosion on vocals, Skwisgaar Skwigelf and Toki Wartooth on guitars, William Murderface on Bass, and Pickles on drums. Their Manager is Charles Foster Offdensen.

Show Overview

In Metalocalypse, Dethklok is the worlds most popular band in the world. Their popularity is so great that any item or service that is endorsed by Dethklok instantly becomes successful, and their competitors are driven out of business.

Having this unheard of level of popularity as well as astute management allows the band to have enormous and seemingly endless wealth. Dethklok at a point was the worlds seventh largest economy (ahead of Brazil). Consequently, World economies suffer when Dethklok fails to release an album on time, or news when news is released that their will be a delay in release.

Unfortunately the members of Dethklok are totally inept in all other skills other than performing music. The band members ignorance of everything outside of their music along with their massive personal wealth allow them to do whatever they wish without any legal repercussions for their actions. Including access to unlimited quantity of drugs and alcohol, which they use heavily every day.

Their manager Charles Offdensen very frequently takes on a role other than just a manager. He is often takes on the role of a caretaker or babysitter and prevents and rescues band members from situations that arise through their own stupidity. These include threats of bodily harm from unruly fans, financial ruin, the band breaking up, as well as looking after their emotional needs as a result of their fragile egos.

The members of Dethklok have virtually no regard for the safety and wellbeing anyone else (including for the most part, each other) other than themselves. This is especially true of their legion of fans who are forced to sign "Pain Waivers" which eliminates the band's liability in the likely case they are injured or killed during a Dethklok concert.
