Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (translation: Tarak Mehta's Inverted Glasses) is an Indian sitcom running on Sony SAB and streaming on SonyLIV. The show is based on the weekly column "Duniya Ne Undha Chasma" by Tarak Mehta. Popular meme templates from the show often feature the lead protagonist, Jethalal.
Background
On July 28th, 2008, Sony SAB premiered the pilot episode of the TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. The show is based in a fictional housing society named "Gokuldham Co-operative Housing Society," in Powder Gali, Koregaon, Mumbai. The location is also called "mini India" in the show due to the regional diversity of its residents. The premise of the show revolves around it's cast of characters and especially the character Jethalal finding himself in a problem that he takes the help of Taarak Mehta to resolve. [2]

The show has an unofficial subreddit dedicated to discussing each weekly episode and sharing memes about the show. The subreddit is called r/TMKOC and has been active since 19th May, 2018.[3] The most popular meme page dedicated to the show is a Facebook page named Jitha Lel 2.0, which is the second iteration of the page. Jethalal
The character Jethalal Champaklal Gada (played by Dilip Joshi) often gets into a situation where he needs help from the "Fire Brigade" (his nickname for his best friend, Taarak Mehta). The comedic character is also the most popular in terms of memetic use. He is sometimes called Jetha or Jethiya, and is married to the character Daya, with whom he has a son named Tipendra. Despite being portrayed as a dunce, he runs a successful business selling electronics from his store, "Gada Electronics."
New 2022 Cast
In 2022, the show underwent some changes in the cast after long-standing actors left the show after 14 years. The actor playing Dayaben (Disha Vakani) and the titular character of Taarak Mehta (played by Shailesh Lodha) left the show before September 2022, resulting in some backlash from fans. On September 13th, 2022, Twitter[1] user @SANTANU32732174 posted a meme about the new cast, gathering over 1,000 likes in nearly two months (seen below).
