Tails Wake Up! You Fucked Up Big Time refers to a series of memes, including photoshops and redraws, based on a set of panels from chapter two of the Tails Gets Trolled webcomic. The comic, depicting Knuckles and Tails from Sonic the Hedgehog was posted to DeviantArt in 2011 and became the subject of memes in 2019 as it spread over the following years.

Origin

The original source of the two-panel meme format comes from a post on December 14th, 2011, when DeviantArt^[1] user lazerbot posted chapter two page 15 of the Tails Gets Trolled webcomic. In one pair of panels, particularly the third and fourth panels from the top of the page, the character Knuckles says, "Tails wake up! You fucked up big time." In the next panel, Tails then wakes up and responds with, "Knuckles" (shown below).

In 2019, the panels became the subject of photoshops, particularly on Tumblr, where users redraw the scene with new characters. On February 7th, 2019, Tumblr^[2] user twinkliquidsnake posted a version of the meme using Metal Gear characters, gaining over 100 notes in three months (shown below).

Spread

The two-panel format continued to be used in additional memes over the following years. For example, on September 26th, 2021, Tumblr^[3] user i-guess-i-like-sonic-now posted a version of the meme using characters from Deltarune, gaining over 7,300 notes in nine months (shown below).

On December 9th, Twitter^[4] user @MonoHollow posted an edited version of the original panels, replacing Tails' caption with the name "Idris Elba," referencing Elba voicing Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, gaining over 54,000 likes and 10,000 retweets in six months (shown below).
