About
Take That Back Leorio is a line of dialogue spoken angrily by Kurapika from the anime Hunter x Hunter to the character Leorio in a scene from the first episode of the 2011 series, to which Leorio responds, "It's Mr. Leorio." The scene became the subject of memes, including remixes and recreations, in late 2020 on multiple platforms, including YouTube and TikTok.
Origin
On October 2nd, 2011, episode 1 of the anime Hunter x Hunter, titled, Departure × And × Friends, aired on Japanese television. On April 16th, 2016, the episode aired in North America.[1] At one point in the episode, characters Kurapika and Leorio get in an argument while on a ship. Leorio insults Kurapika and goes to leave the room. She yells, "Take that back, Leorio," and he hesitates in the doorway. He turns his head slowly, then says, "It's Mr. Leorio," and walks out. On July 15th, 2020, the scene was uploaded to YouTube[2] by crypti, garnering over 447,000 views in roughly 7 months (shown below).
The scene is notably funny to fans of the Japanese dub, where Leorio is subtitled to say, "It's Leorio-san to you," sounding more natural than in the English dub. Some viewers have also noted the pronunciation of "Leorio" as "lay-oreo" funny, as well as the performance of the dub in general.
