Thanos Making Breakfast refers to a memorable scene from 2019 Marvel superhero film Avengers: Endgame in which the Avengers unexpectedly and brutally attack villain Thanos while he is preparing breakfast. Following the premiere, the scene has become a popular reference in memes.
Origin
On April 26th, 2019, Marvel superhero film Avengers: Endgame premiered in the United States.[1] In one scene of the film, the main villain Thanos is shown peacefully preparing breakfast for himself, only to be unexpectedly attacked by the Avengers and killed via decapitation by character Thor.
Spread
Following the premiere, the scene became a popular reference in related memes, with the unexpected manner of the attack launched by the Avengers being parodied.
On April 26th, 2019, Twitter user @comethameme made one of the earliest posts referencing the scene, with the tweet gaining over 120 retweets and 380 likes (shown below).[2] On April 29th, Twitter user @30SecFights copied the tweet, receiving over 93,800 retweets and 276,800 likes.[3]

In weeks following the premiere, multiple posts referencing in a similar manner were posted on Twitter,[4] Reddit[5] and Instagram. For example, a post made by Instagram user joshua.likes.salsa[6] on May 3rd, 2019, gained over 23,500 likes in eight days (shown below, left). Other notable versions include posts made by users RaeRaeRandy[7] and professorpumpp (shown below, center and right).[8]
