The Forester "Which Girl" refers to a redraw trend based on a page from the 1910 book The Forester showing a man looking at the girl on his left and his right non-stop, as if he should be choosing between them. The trend grew popular on Twitter / X as a fan art reference in February of 2024.

Origin

In 1910, The Forester book was published by Lake Forest University^[1]. On page 124, there is a drawing by Charles Dana Gibson of a man looking both left and right non-stop, as if he can't choose between two women named Miss Lois Hall and Miss Ferry Hall (shown below). The drawing was made by Gibson in 1903^[7] and is titled "The Weaker Sex-1."

On February 1st, 2024, Twitter / X^[2] user @DilettanteGenet uploaded the image with the caption roughly translated as "A picture from 110 years ago where I'm trying to decide which girl to choose, I'm so confused and it's so funny." The post received more than 36,900 reposts and 219,100 likes in two weeks (shown below).

After the image was posted to social media, it attracted hundreds of quote retweets, many of which were redraws based on the image. For example on February 7th, 2024, X^[3] user @eastern_maqam uploaded a redraw that received more than 2,200 reposts and 20,500 likes in one week (shown below, left). On the next day, X^[4] user @Bluex801 uploaded a Jujutsu Kaisen redraw and received more than 1,000 reposts and 5,700 likes in one week (shown below, right).

On February 9th, 2024, X^[5] user @shinoo0915 uploaded a Genshin Impact redraw that received more than 900 reposts and 9,100 likes in five days (shown below, left). On the same day, X^[6] user @tsukanoma00 uploaded a Sousou no Frieren redraw and received more than 800 reposts and 7,400 likes in five days (shown below, right).
