About

The Pelones are a trio of animated characters who sing mock renditions of popular songs.

Origin

On March 4th, 2019. YouTuber Sr. Pelo uploaded the video "The Pelones – SSB Ultimate Main Theme." The video featured three characters singing a poorly done rendition of "Lifelight", a song from the video game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The video received more than 1.2 million views in less than one month (shown below, left). That day, Sr. Pelo also uploaded a green screen version of The Pelones, so others could edit and manipulate the video. The post received more than 980,000 views in one month (shown below, right).



Remixes

Following the posts, people began remixing the video, either by placing the song in other contexts or by editing the greenscreen background. For example, YouTuber Epime added the song to a video of the Fortnite Default Dance. The post received more than 60,000 views in one month (shown below).



Over the next month, more YouTubers posted Pelones videos. YouTuber NtGm 889 posted a YouTube Poop Music Video featuring the clip. The post received more than 100,000 views in one month (shown below, left). On March 9th, YouTuber AmazingCanisLupus posted the video "Pelones Heaven – Interview," which received more than 400,000 views in less than one month (shown below, right)
