About

The Smurfs (NES) – The Swamps' Stage Music is a popular chiptune from the NES release of the videogame The Smurfs, which was only released in the European (PAL) region. The tune has been used in several YTPMVs, YTPMV collabs, and remixes on YouTube channels such as SiIvaGunner.

Origin

The Swamps' chiptune (shown below, left) comes from the Europe-exclusive PAL NES release of The Smurfs, which came out sometime in 1994.[1] It was composed by Alberto José González, and used in the game's third stage "The Swamps", as well as the game's tenth stage "Gargamels' Manor House". Sometimes the tune is shown playing at the NTSC speed of 60Hz, which results in a faster tempo (shown below, right).

Spread

One of the first YTPMV collabs of the tune was posted to YouTube by MexicanSunflower in 2010 or 2011, but his YouTube channel was deleted shortly afterward. However, the YTPMV was reuploaded to YouTube (shown below, left). One reupload was by
Talmud Waluigi on February 18th, 2011, which received over 9,000 views in over twelve years.[2] Another YTPMV collab was posted to YouTube on February 7th, 2012, by tomgoodmen. The collab, titled "The North American Smurfs Collab"[3] (shown below, right), received over 41,000 views in over eleven years.

On June 22nd, 2015, a YTPMV collab of the tune was posted to the YouTube channel "tig". The collab (shown below, left) is titled "Russian Smurfs Collab V2"[4] and received over 21,000 views in over seven years. On September 25th, 2016, a YTPMV-styled remix collab of the tune was posted to the SiIvaGunner YouTube channel. The collab, titled "
The Swamps (Act 03) (Gamma Mix) – The Smurfs (NES)"[5] (shown below, right), received over 100,000 views in over six years.

On April 19th, 2018, YouTube user VvvvvaVvvvvvr posted a collab of the tune. The collab, which is titled "The Epic Vavrian Smurfs Collab"[6] (shown below, left) received over 24,000 views in over four years. On October 26th, 2020, another YTPMV collab was posted to the SiIvaGunner YouTube channel. The collab, titled "The Swamps (Act 03) (Alpha Mix) – The Smurfs (NES)"[7] (shown below, right), received over 71,000 views in over two years.
