U Ever Flex on Niggas is a phrasal template to make edgy or inappropriate jokes about ones illness, disability or mental state. The template follows the format "U ever just 'X' to flex on 'X' niggas" and is frequently paired with a pixelated image of Shrek's.

Origin

On April 16th, 2018, Twitter ^[1] user @plant0024 tweeted, "u ever just breathe to flex on these asthma niggas." The post (shown below) received more than 8,200 retweets and 19,000 likes in 10 days.

Spread

The following day, Redditor ^[2] jayred923 posted the tweet on the /r/BlackPeopleTwitter subreddit. The post received more than 50,000 points (91% upvoted) and 290 comments.

Four days later, on April 20th, Twitter^[3] user @BUILTFORDTOUGH posted the phrase with a picture of Shrek's head (shown below, left).

Two days later, on April 22nd, Facebook ^[4] meme account Grape Juice Boys 2 posted a deep fried version of the meme. The post (shown below, center) received more than 3,800 shares, 430 reactions and 550 comments.

On April 25th, Redditor^[5] DagDario posted the original pairing of Shrek and the caption on the /r/dankmemes subreddit. The post received more than 8,900 points (94% upvoted) and 85 comments.

Over the next 24 hours, more users in /r/dankmemes began posting variations of the phrase. For example, on April 26th, Redditor^[6] DagDario posted the image with the caption "u ever just walk to flex on wheelchair niggas." The post (shown below, right) received more than 775 points (96% upvoted).
