Valve Steam 20th Anniversary Meme Tribute refers to Valve Corporation, the creators of the video game distribution company Steam, making a 20th-anniversary tribute to Steam's history with the help of notable games and memes during that time period. Discussions about the timeline and its pop culture references took place soon after the project's release on September 12th, 2023.

Origin

On September 12th, 2023, Valve changed the Steam[1] homepage to its original olive green background shade and released an interactive timeline of Steam's 20-year gaming history with the help of pop culture and meme references through the years.

Steam also released a YouTube[2] video commemorating the event, titled, "Thank you for 20 Years of Steam!" The upload gathered over 500,000 likes in a day (seen below).

Various internet users reacted to the release of the timeline, with X[3] user @OssyFlawol making a post that read, "WITH THE 20 YEAR CELEBRATION OF STEAM, VALVE HAS LET CHELL SPEAK HER FIRST WORDS EVER AND ITS THIS," gathering over 50,000 likes in a day (seen below, left).
