What R U Going To Gain From It? refers to an exploitable series of images that imagine an iPhone text message conversation between two people. The first texts a picture of themselves to the wrong number. The person on the other end replies that they will expose some sort of private information gleaned from the picture. The first person then replies "What r u going to gain from it?"

Origin

On August 11th, 2016, Twitter user @Fkod_Tristan^[1] posted a picture of a text message he mistakenly received from a man in prison. After telling the man he would expose him for having a cell phone in prison, the man in prison responded "What r u going to gain from it?" The tweet gained over 3,000 tweets and likes (image shown below).

Two weeks later, on August 27th, 2016, the image was posted on the Worldstar Hip Hop Facebook page^[2] where it gained over 38,000 likes and reactions. However, it would be another year before the image began being turned into an exploitable. On August 27th, 2017, Instagram account sluttydonuts^[3] posted a variation featuring a little person and the response changed to "Imma tell y'all niggas got a phone in daycare," gaining over 27,000 likes (shown below).

This was the first of several variations that would use different characters and texts in place of the original exchange. On October 1st, Facebook page @CockroachFam^[4] uploaded a variation with an alien, gaining over 7,800 likes and reactions (shown below, left). A post by Instagram user staggering^[5] which used Tupac gained over 16,000 likes (shown below, right).
