About
What the Hell Could Be the Difference Between You and Me?, continued The Difference Is I'm Not Mid, refers to a series of memes based on a line from the anime series DanMachi. In the memes, two related things, such as two versions of a character, show or product, are compared to each other, with one claiming their superiority by saying they are not "mid" like the other.
Origin
On September 13th, 2019, episode 10 titled "Argonaut" of the anime series Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, also known as DanMachi, premiered.[1] In the episode, the character Ishtar confronts Freya, screaming, "What the hell could be the difference between you and me?" with Freya replying, "Character" (English dub[2] shown below).
Prior to July 2nd, 2021, TikTok user Noah posted a since-deleted meme based on the scene, replacing Freya's reply with a male voice saying, "The difference is … I'm not mid," with "mid" being a slang term for "mediocre" or "subpar."
On July 2nd, TikTok[2] user @heroconnoisseur posted the earliest discovered surviving meme based on the soundbite, comparing two animated adaptations of Spider-Man. The post (shown below) garnered over 15,300 likes in four years.
