When There's an Active Shooter at Walmart and the Xanax Is Left Unguarded refers to an exploitable image macro series using an image of Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) from Raiders of the Lost Ark about to steal a golden idol over the phrasal template, "When There's an Active Shooter at X and The Y Is Left Unguarded," implying the poster wants to steal something from a store. The original version of the meme was first posted in July 2021 and became the subject of edits over the following years.
Origin
On July 15th, 2021, Memedroid[1] user llllllllll- posted a meme featuring an image of Indiana Jones about to steal the golden idol captioned, "When there's an active shooter at Walmart and the Sanax is left unguarded," suggesting the poster wants to steal the Xanax while the shooting is going on, garnering over 600 likes in two years. That day, a cropped version of the meme was posted by iFunny[2] user LegitPopTartReviews, garnering over 48,000 smiles in the same span of time.
Spread
The original meme continued to gain viral spread in 2021, including a repost by Instagram[3] user non_haeretici_coalition on July 16th, 2021, while also inspiring photoshops. On November 11th, Redditor u/Dos_Conspiradores posted a version of the meme about the Blahaj Shark to /r/196,[4] which was reposted by Instagram[5] user yourlordandsaviorpoopjesus that day, garnering over 7,900 upvotes and 17,000 likes respectively in two years (shown below).
On April 17th, 2022, u/LordKaji posted a version of the meme referencing Among Us to /r/memes,[6] garnering over 4,100 upvotes in a year (shown below, left). It was reposted to iFunny[7] the next day, garnering over 18,000 smiles in the same span of time. On April 27th, 2023, Instragram[8] user new.incognito.tab posted a version of the meme about Costco pizza that gained over 20,000 likes in seven months (shown below, right).
