You Broke My Toy, or, Aiden Worksheets, also known as Homander, is an exploitable meme template showing the results of a worksheet by a student named Aiden, the most popular asking Aiden to draw and write how someone might apologize to another person after breaking their toy, with Aiden drawing a stereotypical Chad telling her to lift weights. The original version of the meme was posted to the /r/okbuddyretard subreddit in October 2023 and inspired further edits over the following months.
Origin
On October 2nd, 2023, Redditor u/ZTE50 posted a series of memes to /r/okbuddyretard[1] sarcastically claiming to show their grades on three different worksheets that received "F" marks from "Ms. Bailey," garnering over 8,000 upvotes in seven months (shown below).
Spread
On October 9th, 2023, one of the meme was reposted to iFunny,[2] garnering over 4,000 smiles in seven months. On December 6th, a collection of edits of the worksheets were posted to /r/SleepDeprivedPodcast,[3] garnering over 1,300 upvotes in five months (example shown below, left). On February 17th, 2024, a version referencing Breaking Bad was posted to /r/okbuddychicanery,[4] garnering over 4,000 upvotes in three months (shown below, right).
On February 18th, Redditor u/ZTE50 posted a version of the meme to /r/TheBoys[5] depicting Homelander, written as Homander, killing the character with the broken toy, garnering over 3,400 upvotes in three months (shown below).
This version of the meme became one of the most popular and gained viral spread, including a February 20th repost to /r/KidsAreFuckingStupid[6] that garnered over 5,500 upvotes in three months, a repost by Instagram[7] user cultswrld on the same day, garnering over 50,000 likes and a repost to /r/shitposting,[8] garnering over 9,800 upvotes in the same span of time.
On April 28th, Instagram[9] user nightmareworksanimation posted a version of the meme in which the Smiling Friends character Mr. Frog has sliced the child with the broken toy up with a katana, garnering over 23,000 likes in a week (shown below).
Between then and May 4th, the meme was reposted to /r/shitposting,[10] /r/comedyheaven[11] and /r/Bossfight,[12] garnering over 3,200, 2,300 and 2,100 upvotes respectively by May 8th.
