"You Know What's Not Cool, Bobby?" is a two-panel Things I Don't Like exploitable image taken from a scene of King of the Hill. The template will be edited to find Hank Hill telling Bobby Hill that something the poster dislikes is "not cool."

Origin

The scene comes from King of the Hill, from the second episode of the eighth season titled Reborn to Be Wild, which first aired on November 9th, 2003.^[1] In the episode, Hank is concerned with Bobby's behavior and takes Bobby to church for a talk with his pastor. The pastor recommends Bobby visit an afterschool youth group at the Arlen Community Center. Bobby isn't thrilled with the idea as they pull up to the center, and complains that it's "uncool." Hank responds with "You know what isn't cool, Bobby? Hell." A clip of the scene (shown below) was posted to YouTube on June 10th, 2009, by CrvyloOo5 which received over 1 million views in over fourteen years.

The earliest-known post to use the scene as an exploitable meme was posted on September 28th, 2021 by Tumblr user @GuerillaTech,^[2] gaining over 1,300 notes in two years (shown below). Of note, the meme is watermarked by the Facebook group "Borderline Memes for Borderline Dreams," suggesting it may have appeared there first.

Spread

In late 2022 and early 2023, the image began spreading on Reddit and Imgur as a "Things I Don't Like" template. For example, on November 8th, 2022, a variation with the punchline "Simping for billionaires on the internet" appeared in an Imgur^[3] post that gained over 35,000 views in nine months (shown below, left). On July 9th, 2023, Redditor 666thSurprisedPikachu posted an edit in /r/dankmemes^[4] posted an edit that gained over 9,300 points in two months (shown below, right).
