Zipper is a bunny character in Animal Crossing: New Horizons introduced as part of an Easter-themed "Bunny Day" event. The character was offputting to many players, who joked about its creepy appearance and suspicion that he was not a bunny but rather a person or other villager in a bunny costume.

Origin

Zipper T. Bunny appeared in Animal Crossing: City Folk and posterior games as part of an Easter-themed "Bunny Day" event on April.^[1] The character is a peppy rabbit who challenges players to find various kinds of eggs across the game.

Spread

After the update that introduced the character to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players quickly joked about Zipper in numerous ways. Many compared him to the iconic bunny from the game Silent Hill 3. For example, user @potemkin0P made the comparison in a tweet^[2] which gained over 29,000 retweets and 90,000 likes (shown below, left). User @redicnomad^[3] also made the comparison, gaining over 680 retweets and 2,300 likes (shown below, right).

Others remarked on the inconsistencies of the character, particularly its insistence that it was not someone in a bunny costume and that one shouldn't investigate the zipper on its back. User @gomuboo posted a video in which she discovered that Zipper gets annoyed when you look at its back (shown below, top). User @andthejets discovered that the character seems exasperated when the player leaves its line of sight, gaining over 46,000 retweets (shown below, bottom).

People also joked about the overall creepiness of the character's design. User @jomikemc^[4] posted a screenshot of the character staring at his villager in shadow, gaining over 300 retweets and 1,300 likes (shown below, left).
