Mari Setogaya is a character from the 2014 Japanese hentai and adult anime Itadaki Seieki, who is half succubus and half vampire. She was notably popularized in an image macro meme from a scene in which she reveals to other students her secret of being both a succubus and a vampire. The image then went viral in 2018 on Tumblr, Reddit, Instagram and Twitter / X, subsequently inspiring memes about the character’s trait as a half succubus, half vampire.

Origin

On March 14th, 2014, the hentai Itadaki Seikei premiered in Japan.^[4] One of the characters in the show was Mari Setogaya (shown below), depicted as a half-vampire and a half-succubus girl who is able to change her personality and her physical appearance to suit the needs of her partner.^[5]

One of the earliest mentions of Mari Setogaya in a meme was posted on Tumblr by user theinashow^[1] on February 1st, 2018. In the post (shown below), theinashow replied to jarritos’s text “some vampires suck dick!” using an image of Mari flirting with the main character, which amassed more than 131,000 likes in six years.

On January 29th, 2019, Imgflip user TheRevengeMemer^[2] shared a meme on Know Your Meme using a still image from the English dub of Itadaki Seieki. The user added a line said by Mari, "I'm Half Succubus, Half Vampire. The girl of your dreams," amassing more than 22,000 views in five years.

On May 17th, 2021, X^[3] / Twitter user HentaiMeme1 shared a meme about the character (shown below), saying she is the internet’s favorite “half vampire, half succubus” character. The post did not gain significant engagement.
