About

Metal Crotch Guy is the nickname of a performance artist starring in a viral video in which he repeatedly whacks a bar with a metal pole attached to his crotch. A clip of the performance has been used in a series of remix videos featuring techno music with heavy beats.

Origin

In 2005, dancer Marie Chouinard^[1] began directing the performance art piece "Body Remix & Les Variations Goldberg," which features artists performing choreographed dances while wearing costumes with protruding metal objects. A clip from a 2008 performance of the piece was uploaded to YouTube^[4] sometime prior to May 2012, which has since been removed. In the video, a man wearing a pair of briefs with a large metal pole attached to the front walks up to a metal bar on crutches and begins to slap it repeatedly by thrusting the pole up-and-down (shown below).

Spread

On May 29th, 2012, the video was featured on an episode of Tosh.0. On June 6th, YouTuber Jennifer Jewel^[3] reuploaded the clip with the title "Man On Crutches Whacks Penis Cane – Ding Ding Ding." On September 25th, YouTuber AceOfSnipersGaming uploaded a techno remix of the clip (shown below).

On October 15th, the Aryanmehr & Co. YouTube channel uploaded an extended clip of the performance, in which the Metal Crotch Guy appears at four minutes into the video (shown below, left). On September 25th, YouTuber HadyThund3r uploaded another techno remix of the clip (shown below, right).

On October 26th, 2012, YouTuber RayWilliamJohnson included a clip of Metal Crotch Guy in an episode of his web series =3, gathering upwards of 5.4 million views and 26,000 comments in three years (shown below, left). The same day, another techno remix was uploaded by YouTuber Felixlynch777 (shown below, right). On November 10th, YouTuber followthechosengeek^[2] reuploaded the extended performance art video with the title "Weirdest Video You Will Ever See." Within three years, the video accumulated upwards of 4.7 million views and 14,000 comments.
