About
My Daughter Loves Him, I Think He Looks a Little Gay, But Whatever Makes My Princess Happy refers to an exploitable image macro and catchphrase started in May 2020 on Facebook. A screenshot of the original Facebook post is typically exploited by memers who insert their own image of who the hypothetical "daughter" is attracted to despite the conservative father's best efforts at understanding it. In a lesser capacity, the phrase is also used as a standalone copypasta without the image.
Origin
On May 6th, 2020, a fake Facebook profile under the name Noel Wright[1] posted the original post (shown below),[2] using a photoshopped picture of BTS star Jaehyun (NCT) as an airplane pilot, whose source image is from October 2018.[3] As of August 2021, the post has roughly 5,000 reactions and 3,300 shares.
The post was screenshotted within three minutes of it being posted to Facebook, reposted to Instagram by the creator of the Noel Wright profile, whose small circle of friends on Facebook consist of other fake male and conservative profiles.[4][5] For instance, the profile picture of the Noel Wright account is from a Florida news headline from March 2020.[6] It is also the infamous profile picture of a fake Instagram personality, Henry Davis, whose account is on its third iteration.[7] The real identity of the profile picture is a Florida man named Mark Marlow.[8]
Spread
As early as May 9th, 2020, the catchphrase was being used on Twitter[9] in various tweets. However, the Facebook post and template wouldn't receive much attention until the last day of August 2020. On August 31st, 2020, in a now-deleted Instagram post, Instagram[10] account @punk_irl shared a version of the meme with themself edited into it (shown below).[11] The original Facebook post also received additional attention from this. Many followers of @punk_irl circled back to it to comment, share and react, giving it further engagement.
The meme saw remixes after this Instagram attention, moving to other apps like Twitter and iFunny during the first week of September 2020. The meme received more attention on October 31st, 2020, when YouTuber and Twitch streamer Wilbur Soot reposted one of the memes that used his face on Twitter (shown below).[12] This tweet received roughly 172,000 likes over the course of one week.
Notably, during September and November 2020, the format received a large number of remixes with memers using pictures of Bladee, Robert Pattinson, Yung Lean and the doomer e-boy (among others).
