About

"You Bet Your Sweet Bippy I Did" is a memorable line of dialogue spoken by Ed in the cartoon series Ed, Edd n Eddy before getting hit in the face with a bowling ball. The scene became the subject of memes, including video edits and image macros, starting in 2018.

Origin

On November 4th, 2005, Season 5, Episode 2 of Ed, Edd n Eddy, titled "Every Which Way But Ed,"[1] aired on North American television, including a scene where Ed says, "You bet your sweet bippy I did," (shown below) a line which is a direct reference to the 1968 television series Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In.[2]

On August 28th, 2018, Twitter[8] user @whastage posted the clip of Ed saying the line and getting hit with the bowling ball to Twitter under the caption "Ed fucking dies," garnering over 52,800 likes and 18,000 retweets in roughly two years.

On August 29th, Twitter[3] user @LightSkinYagami tweeted, "HER: 'D-DID YOU JUST CUM INSIDE ME?!' ME:" along with the clip (shown below). The tweet went viral, gaining over 200,000 likes and 73,000 retweets in roughly two years, and inspired a number of other recontextualized porn clips using the scene.

Spread

Following the viral tweet, YouTubers began remixing and editing the video to change the context. For example, on September 2nd, 2018 YouTuber King Birb[6] posted a version of the video with a Japanese flag placed over Ed's head, garnering over 67,000 views in roughly two years (shown below, left). On September 5th, YouTuber[7] Sleep's Shitposts uploaded a Team Fortress 2 themed edit (shown below, right).

The video went viral as it was recommended by the algorithm, gaining over 8.6 million views in just under two years.
