Alicorn Controversy

The Twilight Sparkle Alicorn Controversy was a significant event in the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fandom, centered around Twilight Sparkle becoming an "alicorn", a synthesis of a unicorn and pegasus. The change triggered a significant rift to develop in the fandom between those who supported and those who opposed it, generating large amounts of derivative media.

Twilightlicious

Twilightlicious is a slang term in the fandom, used as an attribute to describe something as amazing or awesome. It originated from a tweet by Twilight Sparkle's voice actress, Tara Strong, in which she performs a short rap with the word at the end.

Republican Strategist Defends Melania Trump's Speech

On July 18th, 2016, Melania Trump delivered a speech in support of her husband’s candidacy for president at the 2016 Republican National Convention. Following the speech, many accused her of plagiarizing portions of Michelle Obama’s 2008 Democratic National Convention speech. In an interview with CNN the following day, Republican strategist Sean Spicer defended Trump's speech by comparing various passages to quotes attributed to John Legend, Kid Rock and Twilight Sparkle (shown below).

"Melanie Trump said, 'the strength of your dreams and willingness to work for them.' Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony said, 'This is your dream. Anything you can do in your dreams, you can do now.'"

Also on July 19th, BuzzFeed[7] published a quiz titled "Who Said It: Melania Trump Or Twilight Sparkle From My Little Pony?" The following day, the Twitter feed for the the late night talk show The Nightly Show posted an image macro of host Larry Wilmore mocking Spicer's defense of Melania Trump (shown below).[8]

The really dumb thing is that in the show's context it doesn't even mean that. Twilight is literally saying that they can do any thing because they are literally inside of a dream and have to defeat a giant magical construct representing Luna's repressed guilt before it escapes the dream into the real world.

I really want to see them attempt to explain all that.
