What Does 'Fanum Tax' Mean? The TikTok Slang Term That Started With A Twitch Streamer Explained
In high schools and middle schools across America, Gen Z and Gen Alpha are saying the slang catchphrase "Fanum tax" when they jokingly steal their friend's lunch.
The concept of a "food tax" is not alien to most people. It's a classic older brother move or a "dad joke" phenomenon, however, the action has become increasingly associated with one Twitch streamer and his notorious habit of "taxing" his friends' meals. The term "Fanum tax" is currently all over TikTok, sparking curiosity about its meaning and origin.
What does "Fanum tax" mean? Who is Fanum and why has his "tax" become a trending meme? Let's explain.
What Does 'Fanum Tax' Mean?
A "Fanum tax" is a different way to say "food tax." A "food tax" is when one person takes a "tax" from their friend's food or meal, as in, they take a bite from their friend's food. Depending on how hungry or mean that friend is, the "tax" they take could either be small or large. For instance, taking one french fry versus 10 french fries.
Who Is Fanum The Twitch Streamer?
Fanum, whom the term "Fanum tax" references, is a Twitch streamer who's a part of the collective AMP which consists of fellow viral streamers like Kai Cenat and Duke Dennis. As stated, Fanum is the one the "tax" is named after because he started to tax his friends live on stream, busting down the door of their rooms to take an aggressive bite of food.
The Fanum tax phenomenon started as early as December 2022 but has continued into this year, becoming a running gag on AMP streams.
Why Is 'Fanum Tax' A Meme?
The main reason why "Fanum tax" is currently a viral meme is because of a mass perception that teenagers and young adults like to say the phrase unironically. In a school lunchroom or band class, kids that some would label cringe shout "Fanum tax!" and take a big handful of their friend's food.
In turn, many young adults and members of Gen Z have started to use the phrase ironically, satirizing and parodying those who say "Fanum tax" with no self-awareness. In late 2023, parody videos that reference the phrase and the stereotypical person who says it appeared all over TikTok.

What Is The 'Fanum Tax' Song?
Over the past week, a Gen Z slang overload song known as "Sticking Out Your Gyat for the Rizzler" has started to go viral on social media. Many are also calling it the "Fanum Tax" song because of its lyric "You're so Fanum tax."
Memes using the song are mostly making fun of children who use "Fanum tax" in real life, as well as other terms and subcultures likened to Gen Alpha such as Skibidi Toilet and its alleged syndrome.
