"PMO" actually has two meanings. Firstly, it's an abbreviation for "put me on," like to put on someone to a new trend, hobby or insight. "PMO" also means "pissing me off" or "piss me off." The abbreviation's most common use in recent months is the latter.

Where Does 'PMO' Come From?

"PMO" was first added to Urban Dictionary in late 2005, defined as "pisses me off." The "put me on" definition was added years later in 2016.

What Does 'TS PMO' Mean?

"TS PMO" combines "PMO" and another slang abbreviation "TS," which means "this shit." So, "TS PMO" means, "This shit pissing me off."

'PMO' Usage In Memes

Back in 2021, the "put me on" meaning of "PMO" was used en masse on TikTok in videos with the phrasal template, "PMO to your X." The "X" is replaced with a person like a "bestie," "homeboy" or "girlfriend." The trend was about showing your followers the important people in your life.

The "pissing me off" meaning of "PMO" gained major traction last year. Viral tweets used the phrase and so did TikTok videos. Much of this usage was clear-cut, however, once people started misusing "TS" in recent months, posts with "PMO" became increasingly absurd.

What happened was that ignorant internet users began using "TS" as a replacement for "this," unaware of its actual meaning. Many Black internet users thought that it was hilarious but also concerning because when someone used "TS" as "this" it showed that they were co-opting the AAVE term and failing.

Because "TS PMO" is a common phrase, people started to satirically misuse "PMO" as well, sometimes writing, "Delete TS shit before you PMO off," like one X user the other day.
