TikTok's apparent love affair with using cringey anime sound effects continues with the rise of "Bohahaha" laugh edits inspired by Bleach.

Fans of the classic anime will remember Don Kanonji's dramatic laugh from early on in the show, but the sound has been given new life on TikTok, where users have been making gacha animations and Roblox edits set to the maniacal laugh.

So what's the backstory behind this meme, and what are some of the most viral videos to come from it? Here's a recap of the "Bohahaha Laughing Edit" trend.

What's the 'Bohahaha' Laugh From Bleach?

The origin of this soundbite lies in season 1, episode 10 of Bleach, which originally aired on December 7th, 2004. The episode introduces Don Kanonji, a melodramatic ghost hunter and television star with a signature pose and laugh: "Bo Ha Ha Ha!"

His antics irritate protagonist Ichigo, especially when Ichigo's own friends start copying the laugh and crossing their arms over their chests in mock homage.

A clip of this scene was uploaded to YouTube by user funkilla123 on February 28th, 2011, where it amassed over 378,000 views over 14 years.

What's With the 'Bohahaha' Laugh Edits on TikTok and YouTube?

It wasn't until March 2025 that the plot point evolved into an internet meme trend, when TikToker @nuyuki posted a reanimated Bleach edit featuring multiple characters (including Ichigo, Orihime, Rukia, and Nelliel) laughing increasingly maniacally to the track "harinezumi" by waera.

The video went viral, racking up over 20 million views and 2.2 million likes in just two months.

Soon after, TikToker @helena.official's gacha animation version of the trend, showing a catgirl cycling through three progressively evil laughs, exploded online. While her April 10th TikTok got 520,000 plays, her April 12th YouTube video upload clocked over 13 million views in three months.

What Are Some More Memes That Use the 'Bohahaha' Sound Effect?

The viral formula quickly splintered into sub-memes, particularly the "How I Laugh In Front of X" format, where users made purposefully cringe videos, exaggerating how their laugh would change depending on whose watching.

On May 19th, 2025, TikToker @kearsobased posted a version of the meme showing how he would laugh at femboys, the gang and Twitch streamer Kai Cenat haters, gathering over 5.8 million views.
