But actually, that is strange. I haven't read a study on it yet, but I do observe that heterosexuality and female homosexuality/bisexuality are the ones most commonly viewed as tolerable. However, male homosexuality/bisexuality is looked down upon.
I'm heterosexual, but does anyone have study on why female homosexual relationships are viewed as "hot"?

Anyways, this was posted before on one of these pony threads. Personally, Ive always imagined that if this show got really sexual, pinkie pie could be bisexual and rainbow dash lesbian. I don't see the apples being homosexual. More likely incest but even then no. hoity totie( or however you spell it) is gay because Karl lagerfeld is. Blueblood is bisexual and plans royal orgies. Celestia is a perv, Luna is more conservative. That's all I got. This isn't my headcanon, it's only what I could imagine them being.

Easy, because heterosexual males are attracted to females so they won't object to two females making out. It's hot. The same cant be said if you see two men kissing. Still, it's a stupid double standard. If you accept one, you should except the other.
Also, in a way, it might easier to relate to a lesbian for a straight man in the same way it's easier for a woman to relate to a gay guy.

F/F shipping is definitely more widely accepted than any other shipping. Meanwhile you don't hear about M/M much at all.

Is it homophobia? Some say yes, but I find it far more likely to be because of typical heterosexual male behavior.

Take another look at Verbose's Brony survey further up which shows evidence that Bronies overwhelmingly consist of heterosexual males (bolded because that's the important part) and as you all know; straight males don't really care much for the love affairs of other males, but boy do they ever love lesbians!

As one of my friends put it: Lesbian shipping = more boobs. Simple reasoning like that is why straight guys are vastly more interested in girl on girl relationships.

Now you may argue with me here that Ponies don't have boobs but let me finish. Regard that the reasoning I gave is a vast oversimplification. On a deeper psychological level, straight guys have been trained by society to put more value on the relationships of women and the behavior of women in relationships intrigues straight men more as any straight man would love to be involved in that.

Meanwhile the behavior of men in relationships bores straight guys. They won't ever interact with guys on that level so it just gets in their way. F/F shipping doesn't pose that problem.

Even if said women are not human, both readers and writers of shipping will still gravitate towards that effect

Btw, what happened in the synchtube after I left? From what it sounds like, a lot happened. Whatever it was, I'm just sad to have missed it.

Regarding F/F and M/M shipping:

This is most definitely tied to the fact that the majority of the fandom is male and heterosexual. Because of the lack of males in the show, F/F shipping will be much more common than any other type of shipping. Also, a heterosexual male would be more interested in F/F shipping than M/M shipping (as such, I would like to hear Twins' thoughts on M/M shipping).

I'm now going to go on a mad rant about RD's supposed homosexuality:

I have no problems with RD being portrayed as homosexual. I do have a problem when she is set in stone to be homosexual, or more to the point, when people have problems with her being in straight pairings.

The problem I have with her being "cannon" (to the fandom) homosexual is that most people base this off of her tomboyish personality. There is, of course, her rainbow colored mane, but this is more of a comical/non-serious assumption. The problem is that when people declare her as being homosexual (declaring, not just portraying) because of her personality , they're saying the only acceptable way a woman can be a tomboy is if she's homosexual. And I find this absolutely unacceptable.

Once again, I have no problem with her being portrayed as homosexual in fics, art, comics, etc., nor am I against homosexuality in general. I have a problem with her being declared by everyone as such. I'm not going to get mad at you people for posting any art or comics with RD F/F shipping.

Easy now, I'm not 100% with it either. However, look at the differences:

This is CELESTIA

She's an alicorn princess of the sun who rules Equestria. She's a sort of mentor and teacher to Twilight Sparkle and a caring mother figure.

This is MOLESTIA

She's a perverted character conjured up by the fandom as a joke. She's sick and twisted, and (in dual meaning) horny.

CELESTIA is a caring mother figure
MOLESTIA is a pervert.
One should discern between the two.

It's all personal opinion. I've seen many people who prefer M/M shipping over hetero shipping, even if they aren't the majority. It's a psychological wiring, one that was over exaggerated by that comic. I've seen very few people react anywhere near that badly. It's usually just a slight preference to F/F or hetero, and not a massive disapproval or hate for M/M.

For an example, I present you JackleApp's Griffin Village series, so far. It's a series of songs about a guy who eventually falls in love with Big Mac.

Countless comments voiced approval for the protagonist being male. Including the top comment there for a while on the one where he actually falls for Big Mac.

That shows that the fandom is not entirely against M/M. And, from my experience, what few are against it aren't against it in a large extent. They're against it like I'm against McDonalds: I like it only slightly less than all other fast food, but I don't hate it.

Fast food is the new go-to analogy for shipping, in my own head-canon.

Speaking of head-canon, that brings me to Dac's post.

First of all, I would like to say that this is kinda my opinion and how I view the princesses. I think both Celestia and Luna would both be rather chaste, since they're immortal. They'd want to avoid the risk of losing loved ones, since they'll outlive fucking everybody. I never got the Molestia deal, even though I know she's from a different universe or whatever, because it has absolutely no basis in the show. Tyrant Celestia has at least some standing, but very little.

It's still just my opinion, but I never got the idea that Celestia is a perv.

As for Cadence…

Shining Armor is a sexy mofo.

Edit: Also, as a side-effect of reading Eternal, Celestia is now my favorite pony.

First, Its because it's funny and JJ fleshed out a pretty convincing character. It has nothing to do with sexual attraction. Second, never insult me again for something so trivial. I respect the fact that you love a fictional character, that's your deal and I respect that. I would apreciate you show me the same respect, I tend to have an odd sense of humor is all and I see these fictional characters as what they are, fake, so I have no issue with making adult jokes about them.

As far as I am concerned; Molestia is a separate character from Celestia. Much like how Pinkamina is a separate character from Pinkie Pie. They are separate in the sense that they are different personalities imbued in the same body except one is canon and the other is simple a joke created for lulz

When you see jokes about Celestia being a perv, you laugh with the joke, not accuse everyone of being perverts. It's not like we share Molestia's philosophy, let alone practice it.

I daresay it seems a bit too typical to place a rainbow-colored tomboy as a lesbian, and Southerners as being incestuous. Yeah, I know that's not exactly what you said, but that incest one in particular is kind of vexing to a guy from out in the sticks. Such generalizations aren't very fair I think (I believe Faust said something similar once), but then, to paraphrase Blue Screen, it doesn't pay to let things online get you too riled.

I can't help but wonder, why is that message still up? It's been over a year since it was posted, and I'm not convinced there was ever anything to apologize for in the first place. I like the (rather) friendly atmosphere of this fandom as much as the next guy, but a nod like that--to visitors from /b/ no less--seems over the top. It sounds like being sorry that we enjoy and post pony stuff. Is 4chan's horde of anons who spam and hate and start internet fights ever going to apologize? Of course not. But then again, one may argue that a message like that is what bronies should strive to be like, a little bit more polite than the average net troll. What say ye?

Welcome back, bro.

You missed a fair amount. There was both the 'Great Derpy Shitstorm' and 'Second Great Derpy Shitstorm', in which many jimmies were rustled. The first one was pretty serious, as it happened at around the same time as a big argument between Ideo and Cite, and we haven't seen Ideo since. The second one was caused when some new members tried to convince us to join some kinda 'Save Derpy' crusade, and to say that it wasn't well received would be an understatement.

There was also another shitstorm that I think was started due to an argument between Dac and Cite. It escalated somehow and ended in a thread-wide negstorm that lasted a couple of days. Cite is currently on a Pony General hiatus thanks to that one (which reminds me, come back Cite!).

We finally got around to making our own forum with the intention of moving most of our discussions there. However, I think there were issues managing it, and after constantly going down and returning with new layouts, everyone lost interest. A couple of people who enjoyed tl;dr discussions were hoping to use that forum for analysing the show, since this thread didn't seem appropriate for it. opspe now posts a lot less frequently, and Verbose doesn't post quite as many tl;drs these days (though he really should). Oh yeah, Verbs is also a mod now.

On top of all that, we've have loads of new members join, and most of them are pretty awesome (actually, I can't think of a single one of them that I dislike). There's Muffinator, Explosive Lasers, Brownmane, Popperfett, Zarathh, Joe Amethyst, Millenial Dan, Windigo, Pinkamina, Tim the Enchanter, I Post Stuff, El Slinker, Ephemeral, and err… probably more people (so many new members, I can't keep track of all you guys! Sorry if I missed you from that list). Also, turns out Berry Punch was Connor. Many minds were blown over that revelation.

In short, the pony threads are slower than they used to be, but definitely still going strong. We've had our ups and downs over the last few months while you were gone, but everything's going pretty well right now. So, err… yeah, good to see you back!

Can I not leave you fellows alone? So much has changed, holy…
Anyways, yeah thanks ^^ I'm gonna try to stick around this time. Rrrrright after school.

If the first thing somebody sees on a website is an appeal and an apology for any bad stuff somebody else that's part of a community did, they're likely to feel that not every part of that community is the same. They're more likely to stay, and see what happens.

But yeah. Karnage is a resident Pony General poster after we picked up the pace. There was a time where Pony General stayed open only because it was featured. Had it not been featured, it would have probably autolocked due to inactivity. Having 200 pages on a thread would have been laughable for Pony General, let alone what is now 938 pages of Ponu. Karnage was one of the mainstay users here when the thread started to pick up in activity. He was known for being a pretty good guy who liked his grimdark art.

Like I've said, I prefer a little more organization in my pony discussion (#twilightsparkle). That's part of the reason I don't post here. I like for a topic to be discussed to its natural end without interruption, and that's just not done here. Nor should it be. So I just post somewhat briefly on occasion. However, I keep an eye on the thread (as I do any thread), and it's hard for me to not join a conversation when I see something interesting (i.e. dac and burning duking it out).

So even though I don't post as much, I haven't really gone anywhere.

@Commodore: Glad to have you back, even though I never met you before. Yes, the season finale was freaking amazing, and a bunch of others agree. Studio B and the Hub really did put a lot into advertising and it paid off. It got first place on The most over the top weddings of 2012 on Buzzfeed. They got Tori Spelling to host the episode too. They really are truly amazing.
