Here's an interesting read, TechRaptor writes Video Games Make Heroes, Not Criminals

"They see characters with guns and weapons and explosions and blood, and can only assume it is completely depraved with no substance or context whatsoever. But what gets lost in translation, even when gamers fight back against the accusations, is the fact that in the vast majority of games we play we are not simply faceless macho archetypes."

"We are heroes."

Kinda related to this… Anyone remember that irate teacher that was calling for muscle to force a reporter out of the BLM campus demonstration – protest riot at Mizzou?

Well, she was clearly showing her true colors then, as she is now in even more hot water for cursing out police officers at a homecoming event.

And I believe she actually assaulted the officers too, but I'm having a hard time an article corroborating that. I saw it on the news last night, so I know there should be something.

I guess I have no choice but to blog this on the comments section as this is directly related to the use of the Hashtag and is a noteworthy progression. Get those Deja Vu cannon's ready, there's going to be a lot of questions and "Just die already" comments.

@MexPirateRed: Shadow banning is illegal.

Oh boy, I remember how the Atheism+ Blockbot had to be moved over to America because it was in violation of the EU's Data Protection Directive.

Now some random Gamera gif.

Technically you could at the right time. In about 2 hours the trending bar will clear and anything that gets posted on gamergate comments during that brief time window will cause it to appear as trending. Since replying to a comment is discussion and does not need to contribute to gamergate as a whole it's technically allowed.

However, that would probably be an overall dick move, and might make the mods skeptical.

Unless you were to post further contributing information about gamergate as a seperate field at that right time. Then that would be concidence.

Like the response to Milo's tour thats sparking insanity, if the hashtag was blamed. Or another article claiming gamergate to be dead.

William The Brit wrote:

So can the mods just start suspending people who post "durr why is dis trending agin!" in the GamerGate entry's comments or something, it's pretty much the same three or four people doing it.

Yes and no. Some of mods listed on the topic have that power and I'm working on contacting them to use the rules as they see fit. The ones that should apply to the comments section are:

*Avoid duplicate contributions. Use the search function to check for preexisting entries or threads on the same topic before creating a new one. If there is a similar entry that covers the subject, please request editorship or make a suggestion for improvement. If there is another thread that pertains to your topic, post your thoughts there instead of starting a new thread. Similarly, please avoid the uploading of duplicate media unless there is a clear improvement in quality.
*Keep it relevant. Make sure that any addition or contribution you make to the site is relevant to the topic at hand. If you have nothing to say on a particular subject, skip the topic and move on. Similarly, please make certain your media contributions are relevant, regardless of the state the entry or thread is in. If you want to address a specific individual about personal matters, contact the user via private message instead of starting a public discussion.
*No porn or gore. Do not upload adult content to the website or post it to any area of the site. External links to sites containing such content, or advertisements for such, will be censored at the discretion of moderators, unless it is absolutely vital to meme research discussions and accompanied by a clear [NSFW] warning label. For more information on what content is allowed and disallowed, please check out the NSFW Guidelines.
*No flooding or spamming. Flooding, defined as repeated posting of redundant material, and spamming, defined as posting of any advertisement or promotional materials, are strictly prohibited.
*No auto-play or coding edits outside of your profile’s about section. Posting autoplaying video, audio, or flash files outside of your own profile’s about section is prohibited, likewise to any edits in the site’s layout such as the font or the background outside of it through coding. This pertains to all comments, forum posts, and other user pages. Violation of this rule may result in an extended suspension period.
*Do not attempt to evade a suspension or ban. Using an alternate account, proxy IP address, or other means of evading a ban are strictly prohibited. Violation of this rule may result in an extended suspension period, or in a permanent ban.
*Behave. We want our site to be welcoming place for both old and new users. Please keep your comments and posts constructive and considerate in tone. If you observe a user breaking a rule, try advising the user in the right direction, rather than posting insults or harsh criticisms. If the user’s behavior persists, contact a moderator.

What were seeing is a violation of the Flooding and Behave rules. (and possibly relevancy.) Due to crass language, derailing conversation pieces and overall flooding of this comment section and others, there's loads of self incrimination on the accounts that belong to that person/people.

Mods need to be notified though in order to act. Otherwise they'll come across these instances in passing.

I agree with The Britt. If posting "motivational" music and the other off topic posts are against the rules intentionally bumping the GamerGate page with "OMG WHY IS THIS TRENDING?!" Gamergate starts trending after that one post should be against the rules as well, especially if it's being done by a troll that's intentionally trying to get the comments locked again.

The article talks about the current ongoing privacy issue in that the FBI are asking/demanding that apple give them the ability to hack into the phone of a known terrorist.

For reference, apple phones have built in security that causes the phone to delete contents if it is illegally accessed multiple times. The FBI wants apple to design them a program that allows them to access the phone as many times as they want so they can brute force the password. Apple thinks that if they do this they're setting the precedent that the FBI and american government can force tech companies to weaken their own software.

Bookie wrote:

The FBI is making demands that Apple break the encryption on the iPhone using San Bernardino as an excuse.

John McAfee explains why that's a bad idea.

I honestly don't need Mr. McAfee to tell me why that's a bad idea. That's pretty much self evident.

If this is just about getting into one particular phone for a terrorist's information, why doesn't Apple just take the phone and give them an information dump? No backdoor, no coding/system securities broken, just the data the FBI's after.

Or do I just not know what I'm talking about?

Because the FBI wants that backdoor for themselves, so they can do the same to any iPhone they get their hands on.

Look at that "providing the FBI" part:

Ah… I see… They are very, very blatant about it, too.

I hope and pray that Apple sticks to their guns and not cave in. Or maybe after they do it, completely redo their security measures as an update so that the backdoor ceases to work.

That is just dirty…

Hello my fellow gamers of KYM! I want to talk to you about the situation with Fire Emblem Fates, it's heavy edits, censorship, and the fact that SJWs are running NoA's Treehouse localization team and some of the translators even brag about not knowing a thing about Japanese.

This has no recorded precedent, even in the 80´s and 90´s during the period pre ESRB in which all games no matter how mature were infantilized in the SNES there was something like this. Political ideology had little to do with localization and personel at NoA was expected to understand the source languages.

They had a higher quality standard which was even admired by their bitter rivals at Sega such as Tom Kalinske, the man in charge of SoA.

Ted Woosley made some shameful translations and localizations such as the infamous FFVI line "Son of a submarineer!" Uttered by Kefka in the SNES Western version, but there was no politics and no cuts, sometimes a butt or a pair of tits was covered with clothes, but even then some things were left as is, and even with name changes they managed to keep some ellegance.

An example of this is Breath of Fire II, in which many names were changed including one of a character who Anita Sarkeesian would love if she knew her. The character, Rinpu Chuan, was renamed Katt, and she was a feline like girl who WORE NOTHING BELLOW THE WAIST, and that was not changed in the Western version. That is right, SNES era NoA left a half furry cat girl showing her bare butt (and fur covered pussy) to a whole audience of American kids and Teenagers who were fully aware of it. It is obvious many of those who like me played it during puberty developed a crush on her.

Seriously, we are talking about pre ESRB and early ESRB periods in which there was a lot less censorship than now, there was no political ideology injected in games, and most localizations were more respectful to the original content than what Treehouse is doing. Heck, even with rules such as watering down all allusions to religion and removing items such as corsses the games retained most of the original content.

Even Castelvania GBA games which were not calssified as M rated games had demons with penises, statues featuring full frontal nudity, and female monsters with exposed breasts in the Western localizations.

What these SJWs are doing is going to kill the industry from inside if we don't make a move. They declared acultral war on us with this. We must act, we can't stay as couch potatoes anymore. I am not talking about fighting with weapons, fists, or even in physical form (But I would advise taking the streets and marching for free speech with as little inconvenience to the population as possible), I am talking about petitions, tons of them, massive e-Mailing as we did during the GamerGate first months with the planned "operations", and if necessary even lawsuits. Maybe those who understand and are capable of writing Japanes, such as Japanese residents on this thread should forward this issue to Nintendo of Japan, tell the writers of Fire Emblem Fates how these idiots destroyed their hard work and insulted it. We must act, and we must do it now, otherwise it might be too late. We must do it for the industry, for the players, for the creators, and for the FEF staff that worked day and night to deliver their best and who might not be ahppy with the idea of seing their work destroyed and insulted by a bunch of ideologues.

if this has already been talked and a plan is already on the work consider this a motivational speech, if not, consider this a call to arms, a call to all of you, and those beyond this thread, to fight back, to deffend what we care about. Spread the word, I am nothing but a small man, a nobody, but together, we are legion, we are the nameless many, together we can win this, but only if we try.

Hrom wrote:

or we can just not buy the censored titles, and send a message through our wallets

a combination of the two may work tho

I agree with Hrom. Boycotting with wallets is actually a huge blow to the games sales. It's been shown that gaming companies take it hard when they don't reach projected sales numbers. While the censorship/translation is done in claim to keep sales numbers up or adhere with culture, if not enough buy the game in question. The company will be forced to try a new course of action or not put the effort in selling the game at all to the desired region.

Tch, bit dramatic, don't you think?

Ughh….everyone's going on and on about how it was super-censored…though in reality I see it as a botched attempt at a compromise.

See, the whole "face petting" minigame was divisive from the very start. SJWs weren't moaning and whining about how a quick game of snootle boop is satiating the soggy knees. The fandom were the ones completely split down the middle. Some people wanted it, some people thought it was weeb trash.

So, in the end, while the minigame itself was axed to satisfy the portion of the fandom that hated it, the amie models, and being able to pet your spouse were left in to satisfy the portion that wanted it in.

The localization team tried to have their cake and eat it too, satisfying both parties, but that just made people even more buttmad.

Of course, this is speculation.

Beyond the changes to the minigame, however, this is entirely a typical case of the fandom embroiled in a subbing vs. dubbing war. The actual quality of the localization is subjective, and don't say "durr durr 4kids", cuz it's not.

Also: heavily edited? Stop exaggerating. This isn't a case of where some government board ordered all the "problematic" elements purged, or where the violence was scrubbed to make it safe for all the little kiddies to play. This is an example of someone trying to inject humor, with varying results. If it's a miss, it worth nothing more than irritation and an eye roll. If it actually worked, then good on them.

No one is forcing some political tract into the game. No one is trying to change the fact that this is a story about two warring kingdoms, with the protagonist being torn between loyalty towards the kingdom of their birth, and the kingdom that raised them, with a jolly amount of death, violence, and shipping mixed in.

The narrative is still the same. The themes are still the same. All the edits had to be approved by the original developer. That whole mess with the "drugging and gay conversion" was completely overblown, and the changed support was approved by just about everyone, because the original support committed the grievous crime of being poorly written.

This isn't a case like that one mess a few months back when some localization team completely butchered that one Korean game, where they completely rewrote a huge portion of the narrative because it was "problematic", so stop acting like it is.
(This one: http://nichegamer.com/2015/11/report-blade-soul-alteredcensored-for-questionable-material-in-western-release/ )

Euughh…
TL;DR: this whole "controversy" with the localization of FE:Fates is completely overblown. Stay your misplaced anger, before the chaos reawakens the dark dragon Bu'ttma'add, and plunges the world into a new era of totally not cool things.

Localization =/= censorship. And wait, ¿are you really accusing the people who did the translation of being SJWs?

Wow man, wow. I know getting changed a few lines from the game is worth worrying, but straight up calling "SJWs" to the people who did the translation is a tad childish.

While I do think the skinship removal and general changes to the Soleil support generally feel unnecessary, I am still going to purchase this game. However, I think the way the Soleil support conversation is right now is alright, I just wish there wasn't a bunch of stupid controversy about it. Plus, I think these changes would have been made had this game been released a decade or two ago. Nintendo does try to be family-friendly and all.

I do think some of those agenda-driven sites were being full of crap about this and the source they got it from was laughably bad, and I am not a fan of the SJW politics and all that nonsense that they're pushing, but I do NOT believe the game has been ruined. I think you are being rather histrionic about this, which makes you just as bad as the people you complain about.

Though, boycotting can be effective, but I'm still going to make my decision. Plus, I think this scene is still in:

Ohhh yess, that's unchanged. Camilla is as fanservicey as ever.

Though while the change to Soleil's support was unnecessary, I still find that the revised support to be significantly better written. Consensual blindfolding + Imagination > Magical powder that was pull out of no where.

Lenny and Explodium already covered what I could say on the issue of FE: Fates.

Ironically that this is posted in the GG thread on the site, because I believe it's GG which ruined the way people approach these topics nowadays. Since GG, everything is suddenly a SJW agenda. If you're going email campaign mode over this, you should re-evaluate your priorities.

If there is going to be an email campaign or any campaign whatsoever. It should be over hackneyed translation efforts like blade and soul's or the fact that it is a general trend for skinship mini-games to be removed/heavily altered from japanese RPG's in favor of nothing replacing it (i.e Mugen Souls, criminal girls:invite only, etc.). I sincerely doubt there's going to anything useful coming from a campaign based on fire emblem only as opposed to a campaign against the general trend.

If we're going to pay real money for a game, we expect the best that can be offered. If we settle for less then it means the industry can start charging us for games that have basically nothing in them. It is very important that we make sure industry leader's don't forget to pay attention to who they're letting alter and localize their games.

If you're going to demand people only act when things get Blade & Soul bad then it's going to keep happening.

You want to stop this when it's shoving pickle obsessions in & cutting out moving dialog on the nature of war and replacing it with ellipsis.

Because once you've conceded that completely rewriting "gross" quest-lines and changing the hero/villains into 2-dimentional cutouts isn't so far anymore.

@NotLoli

Localization =/= censorship.

Being fussy over wording doesn't change what happened here.

And wait, ¿are you really accusing the people who did the translation of being SJWs?

Take a look at who they hire.

'Video games are far less important then intersectional social issues which is why I got a job at Nintendo for some reason'.

That sounds like "SJW" to me.

@Lenny Guy

Plus, I think these changes would have been made had this game been released a decade or two ago. Nintendo does try to be family-friendly and all.

Ten decades ago Nintendo released Mortal Kombat with green blood, and Sega sold 5 times as much with red blood and they learned a lesson.

Problems have always existed and there will always be problems. Some will still stand up and work on fixing them.

Remember how Mass Effect 3 was handled? Remember how it was just a tiny minority of entitled gamers who thought is was bad? Remember how SJWs defended that game from the ebil homophobic gamers who thought it was bad?

Remember how that worked out? Was that because the GamerGate time machine was used to send robo-sealion death commandos back in time to brainwash everyone into gay-bashing entitlement or was it because lazy, incompetent SJWery has never been popular?

This stuff has always happened, but with the advent of GamerGate now gamers are fighting back harder then ever. GamerGate pushed over a lot of dominoes.

And now you can insist everyone else is immature, you can claim that everyone else is entitled, you can cry that SJWs did nothing wrong, but you're going to find a lot of people disagree.
