Moravia and Poland are to be offered a chance of reunification of the old Empire with the guise that the Emperor wishes to once more bring together the Celestial nations. This will mean the annexation of the two states into the Central Empire.

They refuse. In response to this threat, Poland has signed an alliance with Lithuania and Moravia.

Alright, last bit of diplomacy before signing off.

The Empire wants assurance, will Hungary answer the call for war against its northern neighbours? In return they will be aided with a large expeditionary force to help in the expansion of their own borders southward when that time arrives. A scratch for a scratch.

Will Denmark answer the call to war against the Polish/Lithunian/Moravian alliance? they will be rewarded with steam power in return for getting involved and be owed a favour by the Empire. Not wanting to get involved bodes no consequence and will be respected.

I do realise that but just to see if we can all be friends in this 'kill or be killed' world.

Hungary agrees to go to war. Denmark does not wish to go to war, and is happy to remain in a purely defensive alliance.

Denmark doesn't want to fight, Some Guy doesn't want to fight

I kid

@Some Guy From Temessee

If the Central Empire calls on Genzodia for aid in war will it assist? will Genzodia invade Bosnia/Serbia?

@Crimeariver

I will be needing military assistance soon in keeping the mainland safe and stable.

If I asked for donation of troops to assist in this effort will Cheswick provide that help and send an expeditionary force or mercenaries?

Turn 2

Alliances
Northern Defensive Pact (Denmark, Cheswick, Central Empire, Genzodia)

Yuzco General Alliance (Yuzco, Cherokee, Omaha)

The Maghreb (Al-Andalus, Morocco, Tunis, Tlemcen)

Caribbean Defensive Pact (Hueynation, Carib, Seminole)

Jagiellon Hegemony (Lithuania, Poland, Moravia)

Imperial-Magyar Alliance (Central Empire, Hungary)

RULES FOR TECH You may attempt to invent up to two techs per turn. Each of these takes up one action. If you try for a tech that has prerequisites, you will instead get the previous required tech. A tech tree will be constructed as we play. Do not feel restricted to reality when inventing.

Invention is the easy part; implementation is what takes time. Each tech is followed by a percentage representing implementation, which will rise or fall every turn. The amount it changes depends on random chance, in-game events, and your own actions. At 100% a tech is considered fully integrated and accepted within your society, after which the percentage disappears (assume any tech without a percentage is at 100%). A tech below 100% is still being used in your society, just not fully on all levels. For instance, having gunpowder weapons at 50% means that half of your troops are still exclusively using melee weapons.

Assume that NPCs have similar techs to their player neighbors.

You may gift or steal an unlimited number of techs from any number of nations in a single turn. Stealing and gifting count as separate actions.

For non-independent factions: You automatically have access to all of the techs of the faction that rules the nation you are in. Your own personal techs do not apply to this 'overlord' faction. If you declare independence you will lose access to your overlord's techs.

The World

-The Eighth Warpath has descended upon the Navajo and Hopi, overwhelming their armies. In a desperate bid to retain his sovereignty and the strength of his remaining armies the Navajo king signed a treaty partitioning most of his lands between Shoshone, Chinook, and Wiyot, and has also agreed to convert to Peyotism and break of all ties with Hopi.

-Poland has converted to Christianity as part of a diplomatic bargain with Lithuania for stronger allies. Some have perceived the move as a deliberate distancing of Poland and Moravia away from the Central Empire, which has been seen as a threat to Polish independence.

-The Lithuanian king, Jogaila, has married Jadwiga, the Polish queen, forming a political union and strengthening their alliance. Lithuania now has de-facto power over Poland, and the terms of their alliance with Moravia have become domineering.

-With the backing of their new allies, Lithuania has invaded Novgorod. The Russians were unable to resist effectively due to being drained from their war with Muscowy, and are now at an even weaker point than they have ever been.

-Persia has invaded Baghdad and captured the city, placing the entire country under their control in one fell swoop.

-China has collapsed due to a wave of natural disasters followed by a timely succession crisis. The Han dynasty has split into two opposing factions, each supporting a different heir, and many petty warlords have risen up, each declaring himself emperor of China.

-Al-Andalus has charted the entire coasts of Africa and Pindorama. They have established colonies in South Africa.

-The Aztec Emperor has declared a revival of the empire and marched south with the armies to conquer Tututepec. He was unable to fully route the enemy, and nobody is taking the declaration seriously.

-Hungary has invaded and annexed Bosnia. The other Balkan states have denounced this move, but the Hungarian monarch is unphased, confident that his Imperial ally will support his decision.

-The Japanese finally conquer the north. Got that squared away.

The Alaskan Synod (Taryn)
Tech: Gunpowder (80%), Rocketry (20%)

-State funds are directed towards colonization at an unprecedented level. The army has moved to the frontiers, fighting Kamchadals and Inuits to claim their land.

Emmerich Dynasty (Sergeant Arch Dornan)
Tech: Clipper Ships (40%)

-The colonists continue expanding along the coastline and discover friends among the Tupi. Trade with the natives has brought wealth and regional knowledge, helping to expand the colony there faster.

-The military is directed to prepare for the use of guerrilla tactics using specialized axes. The generals are put on edge, now anticipating a defensive war.

-The monarch has discovered a quaint little bakery just around the corner from his palace selling a unique, home-made sandwiches called Maxi Buns. He loves the food and, his new addiction becoming widely known due to the king's celebrity status, everybody is trying them now.

Rose Dynasty (Tchefuncte Bonaparte)
Tech: Dirigibles (40%), Gunpowder (50%)

-Women are given rights. There is some significant backlash in the conservative heartland, but among the colonies it is seen as a blessing. Due to the difficulties involved in establishing colonies, women have naturally become the backbone of the labor force, and now that they have their rights there is no need to hide women's work from the viceroys.

-The viceroy of Sumatra has become well-known for his corruption and autonomous behavior. In addition, he frequents Siam, capturing slaves and engaging in a hunt for "the most dangerous prey," that being humans. The locals are sick of his reign and have petitioned for his removal. In response, the viceroy has rallied together a militia and threatened to secede if his position is revoked.

High U-Love Party (Twisty)
Tech: Printing (10%)

-Public education funding is put into place, drawing support for the party from its populist supporters, who are always happy for increased spending on the public welfare.

-A cult of personality has risen among certain delegates within the party. Some of the nation's first newspapers have published articles about the dangers of hero-worship in government, but most are paying no mind to it.

-A colonial company is established to build a presence in Pindorama.

House of Leopold (Laika)
Tech: Steam Power (70%)

-Several leading members of the various Gallic noble families are arested and executed for alleged treason. Those which have escaped the wrath of the state are enraged and have risen up in open revolt. Gaul declares independence.

-The Emperor has declared the state religion to be the veneration of Haglaz as a deity. Under the belief that most people would recognize and ancient tradition when they saw it, nobody was forced to join in the new cult. Few, however, have made major changes in their lifestyle. A small riot broke out in a Swiss city known for its pious devotion to the stars, but has amounted to nothing.

-The Roman style arms are hidden away as quickly as they had been produced and no armies are being equipped with them any longer.

Bravdaz Family (TillsterRulz)
Tech: Printing (30%), Steam Power (10%)

-An official statement is demanded from Kiev, but none is received. Shortly after this demand, a major border incident occurred to which there were no witnesses; a town on the Kievan border within Opus territory was torched and all of its inhabitants beheaded.

-The Georgian gifts are readily accepted. The Turkish slaves are armed in Mamluk style and made a warrior regiment, sent to pacify the frontier border. They have established a fort on the Aral sea and frequently patrol the surrounding regions to keep it clear of hostile nomads.

-The Ruthenian rebels are put down with relative ease.

The Council of Cheswick (Crimeariver)
Tech: Gunpowder (30%)

-A harbor in west Africa is identified as a good place for a port and colonists have moved in to set up shop.

-Troops are sent to Eire as a show of force against the so-called "Sons of Liberty."

-A famine is sweeping the nation as the potato crop is ruined by some kind of fungal disease.

Sons of Liberty (Snickerway)
Tech: Steam Power (10%)

-Resource stockpiles, including weapons and food, are built around the island. Contacts are made in various cities throughout the isles.

-A famine sweeping across the potato fields of Cheswick has hit the island particularly hard, leading to many starving peasants to look for leadership among the Sons of Liberty.

The Central Guild (Triangle Mare)
Tech: Steam Power (70%)

(Timeline alteration: Central Guild now has several bases in ports around the Baltic: Danzig, Stockholm, and Riga. Additionally, they have a larger fleet and more resources in their homeland.)

-The Council of Cheswick has provided warships to help along the Central Guild's overseas efforts.

-Thanks to the efforts of Baltic merchants in the "North Stream" route, a virtual monopoly has been formed over the sea's trade.

-A deal is arranged with Al-Andalus, allowing the Sultan certain diplomatic immunities in exchange for a mercantile base in Gibraltar. The Andalucians expect that this base will act as a guarantee against Cheswick hostilities.

-Due to concern regarding the rapid technological advancements occurring around the world, the Guild Master Walter dei Bardi has established two new universities using his own personal funds to encourage the propagation of knowledge and invention in Cheswick.

The Scribes of Confucius (Roy G. Biv)
Tech:

-A phonetic alphabet is developed and the works of Confucius are translated. New students argue that the alphabet is easier to learn than traditional script, although conservative hardliners claim that it is damaging China's cultural heritage.

-The Roses are praised for the adoption of Chinese culture and are honored with a major investment: the construction of a new college. In Shanghai. Classes are offered in Rose culture, which draws some interest from the pupils and brings about a greater curiosity about the Rose state among the gentry. However, the fact that China is gripped in a civil war means that nobody has time for external diplomacy, and the Roses are being largely ignored by the rulers.

-Paths are sought to find trade with the Alaskans, expanding Scribe influence further north.

-Monasteries are established in rural regions and free lessons are offered to the peasants to grant them literacy and practical knowledge.

The Eyyik Tribes (You Are Reading This)
Tech:

-Alliances are struck up with a few Xiongnu tribes. Sinühlään Khan, with their support, moved to conquer what tribes did not agree to ally, absorbing the conquered tribes into his own. With this inflated force he then turned upon his former allies, eliminating all competition for the title of Great Khan. Now there is only one ruler of all Mongolia.

The City of Ionia (CrowTheMagician)
Tech: Printing (50%)

-Schools are established throughout Japan to connect with the people of that country and expand the knowledge base of Ionia. The budding printing industry helps with this propagation of knowledge.

-A massive library is being put together in the capital to gather all of the world's most insightful and prolific manuscripts.

-A trading post is established in Ryukyu, which quickly grows into the nation's primary commercial link with the rest of the world.

Gosh darn it. I feel responsible like I should have been able to do something to prevent the civil war in the Han Dynasty. I mean, I realize I'm a philosophical/ commercial faction so producing troops or directing them isn't exactly in my power, but I still feel like I f*cked up royally.
Now I'm having a hard time choosing any actions, because I keep imagining how they could end horribly.

I'm also the philosophical/ commercial faction but I generally can care for the Han's well being, mainly cause I live far away to care about them.

What are NPC states opinions on the Guild? Especially European/North American countries, those that the guild trades/operates in.

Generally the guild is well-liked by most countries because of the wealth that is generated by its operation. The people who dislike the guild tend to be its competitors, who are currently too minor to have a faction of their own in the game.

Great. I have a couple of other questions. How long do turns last? How is power of a nation calculated, especially during the wars, and how is the outcome determined? Is there any point in investing into the infrastructure and other less visibly profitable branches of the country? And finally, Commonwealth formation when.

There isn't a set time for how long each turn is. I like to keep it ambiguous when it comes to using any numbers in my games because it lightens the work-load in writing a turn.

The strength of a nation is typically determined by the value of its land multiplied by its size with modifiers for tech. Again, its a very abstract concept, nothing that I keep track of with concrete values.

Investing in infrastructure can have a lot of different effects. With the new tech system, it might make the implementation of a new tech move along much faster. It might also forestall any future troubles in your country that are currently evolving "behind the scenes." If you are persistent enough in developing a particular thing it might become one of your nation's major strengths. In some cases though, it only results in flavor text, which is fine because it gives some depth and culture to the game.

So the Empire infringes on peoples rights by centralizing the army yet a group of nobles (who have been lynched) can easily band together literally half the nation and bring about a revolt?

I expected a small rogue group to be rebel up made up of mercenaries hired by the last remaining nobles but not for the country to completely divide, especially in the 10th century, a time definitely more stable than the times of Rome's invasion, when Gaul was truly a barbaric place

I just don't see a solid reason for a uprising of this scope, the Cult of Haglaz is now the state religion and the army has been kept decentralized. What reason would the people have to fight for? and with this being an empire how would a group of dishonoured nobles manage to flex that much influence.

Anyway, I'll combat this uprising. I'm just confused.

I believe that it's because of a) the faith, Gauls are mostly Celestianists, I believe, and secondly, b), power that they previously had, before your dynasty took over. Besides, the Franconian empire was divided (historically) too, and noone objected, so…

It was an execution, not a lynching. Lynching is done illegally, typically by a mob. Your murders were legal, therefor executions. Additionally, you didn't kill all of them, and I even said that in the turn. Most of their extended families survived the purge and took power in the absence of their now-dead patriarchs.

Your state isn't a modern one, it is feudal. This means that, as the king, you probably only have direct control over a good quarter of the armies in your country. Local dukes and barons have their own troops which are loyal to them and their family, first and foremost. They only serve the emperor because their masters do. Your attempt at centralization was a good move, but your response to the backlash was too extreme. If you want a good idea of what just happened in your country, watch Game of Thrones. You figuratively just killed Ned Stark.

Roman times were more stable than medieval times; there was a central authority in the emperor that did not exist again in Europe until the decline of feudalism in the fifteenth century.

Few people are in your cult outside the royal family. It might be an element of ancient cultural heritage, but it isn't something that everybody immediately jumps on board with. It would be like bringing Coptic Christianity back to Egypt in 2016. It doesn't take too many generations for abandoned traditions to be forgotten or replaced.

I hope that I have allayed your confusion.

Alright I understand, I just needed the parameters of what exactly my empire is and now I see that it isn't as unified as previously thought. This is practically a Game of Thrones situation with the various houses answering to the emperor.

I expect you to send a PM within 24 hours of the previous turn, but there is no specific deadline and you can send a PM any time before the next turn is published. In any case, I only guarantee that the next turn will not happen within that time span, and will not say specifically how frequently they will happen. They could happen daily when I have enough time. I am currently in college and have a job during most weekdays, so during the week there isn't all the time in the world to write.

Anyway, I am writing the next turn now, so no more edits please.

Sh!tsh!tsh!t
Sorry I forgot that part!
I just sent you my actions (which technically weren't an edit, since I never had any actions to edit in the first place) and kept them super duper short and simple and shouldn't change things much for you.
Do you think you could let me off with a warning just this once and accept my late submission this one time only?
I understand if you say no, but I'd appreciate if you looked at the paragraph I sent you.
Sorry!!!

It could have been worse Roy. You could have sent out five different edits like me during a past game. I still get embarrassed whenever I think about, like right now.

Map Legend

Alliances
Northern Defensive Pact (Denmark, Cheswick, Central Empire, Genzodia)

Yuzco General Alliance (Yuzco, Cherokee, Omaha)

The Maghreb (Al-Andalus, Morocco, Tunis, Tlemcen)

Caribbean Defensive Pact (Hueynation, Carib, Seminole)

Imperial-Magyar Alliance (Central Empire, Hungary)

Anti-Aztec Coalition (Chichimeca, Miskito)

Anti-Hungarian Coalition (Bulgaria, Byzantium, Athens)

Jagiellon Commonwealth (Lithuania, Poland, Moravia)

You may now send five actions per turn. I think that four is too few, and I believe that some of you may appreciate more flexibility in your decisions.

Just to clarify, you do not have to continue researching the same thing after you invent it. If a tech is listed after your nation you already have that tech. The percentage represents how much of your nation has access to that tech, not how close you are to inventing it. There is no need to research something after you have already invented it.

For instance, if you have "Telegraph (30%)" in your tech, it means that 30% of your people have access to telegraph stations. If it says "Gunpowder (70%)" it means 70% of your armies are using muskets and cannons.

Additionally, you do not need to have a tech be at 100% to invent a tech related to it or that might need that tech as a prerequisite.

The World

-The Narthurian Vanguard has been placed in charge of the defense of Andalucia's African colony. They quickly dominate the administration with their officials and begin expanding the frontier aggressively.

-The Aztecs continue their imperial reclamation with the final conquest of Tututepec and Maya, shocking their neighbors with the sudden success. Miskito and Chichimeca have joined in a coalition against further Aztec expansion.

-The war for China has been going well for Chen and Min, who are using the poor prestige of the Han to turn their own people against them. However, the Mandate of Heaven has seemingly fallen into the hands of a Mongol tribe, the Eyyiks, who are now the most powerful contender in the war.

-Cree and Inuit people have gradually been forced out of their native lands by encroaching Alaskan and Beothuk settlers. The resulting concentration of population in the middle has resulted in a few conflicts and the combination of several tribes into larger confederations. A massive battle has occurred, although the details of why it happened or who was involved are shrouded in mystery due to the lack of Cree or Inuit states.

-With tacit support from the Central Empire, Hungary has conquered Serbia. In response to the growing threat, the remaining Balkan nations have allied against the Hungarians.

-Moravia has been brought under Lithuanian control as a Jagiellon seizes the throne. The Lithuanian king has declared the establishment of a Christian Commonwealth of Lithuania, Poland, and Moravia.

-Lithuania, with the support of their Commonwealth dependencies, has gone to war with Kiev. A simultaneous invasion from Opus has completely destroyed the Ruthenian state.

-Another Commonwealth invasion took the city of Novgorod, causing the rest of the northern republic to disintegrate. The pieces were picked up by Muscowy, which annexed the Russian-speaking regions that were now left leaderless.

The Alaskan Synod (Taryn)
Tech: Gunpowder, Rocketry (90%)

-A colony is established in Australia. Explorers, trying to find a shorter route to the new land, have charted out several island chains in the Pacific.

-Kamchatka's population has grown large enough to establish its own provincial government. The colonial company founded there has lost most of its influence as the territory is integrated.

-Public welfare is improved through higher funding. The general well-being of Alaskan denizens is made known through propaganda to neighboring countries, sowing discontent. Furthermore, Alaska's peaceful nature compared to the unending wars in China and western Hanunah is raising its prestige among the lower classes of people in those regions, who are migrating to Alaska to escape oppression and violence.

Emmerich Dynasty (Sergeant Arch Dornan)
Tech: Clipper Ships (70%), Gunpowder (30%)

-Women and men of science are given official praise from the monarch, who recites a memorial in their honor and makes an official holiday for each. The nobility is encouraged to engage in the most honorable act of scientific research.

-Settlers continue forging into Pindorama and a conflict of interests has led to a minor rebellion. A treaty signed with the Tupi tribes made it illegal for settlers to move to certain lands reserved for the natives, but they broke the treaty and built farms there anyway. The Tupi responded appropriately by tearing down the settlers' dwellings and forcefully removing the trespassers. The colonial governor refused to provide help because of his obligations to uphold the treaty. Frustrated, the local settlers formed a militia of their own and attacked the Tupi, who responded by invading the colony and burning a town to the ground. Now the rebel militia is growing as anti-Tupi sentiments spread throughout the colony and the governor has still done nothing to resolve the issue.

Rose Dynasty (Tchefuncte Bonaparte)
Tech: Dirigibles (90%), Gunpowder

-The viceroy's militia are bribed and threatened until only a few small, core regiments stand by his side. Realizing that the combination of a homeland invasion and popular uprising would dethrone him, the viceroy has fled to India with his troops where he has not been heard from since. In the meanwhile, the colonial administration has been dismantled in Sumatra and Borneo, where the population has grown large enough to support itself.

-Colonists encountering the Mon people have run into some troubles expanding the frontier in that direction. The natives are too populous and their towns too developed for new settlement to occur. They are requesting military support to conquer these lands and remove the Mon.

High U-Love Party (Twisty)
Tech: Printing (90%)

-In a recent election the H.U.L. party won by a landslide majority, severely disheartening the L.I.H. party, who are accusing the H.U.L. administration of putting higher emphasis on popularity than real action. They are spreading a rumor that the H.U.L. intends to transform the republic into a dictatorship.

-The Pehuenches people are becoming a menace to the Pindorama colony. Their partly nomadic lifestyle is interrupting the production of Yuzco farming communities, which are having their crops stolen by Pehuenche gatherers.

House of Leopold (Laika)
Tech: Steam Power

-The armies march into Gaul to put down the nobles' rebellion. With Hungarian and Cheswick support the rebel armies are surrounded and annihilated. The Emperor seizes this opportunity to centralize the armies even further, forcing nobles under his command during the war to surrender certain rights or face orders to fight unwinnable battles.

-Gaul becomes the personal fief of the Emperor, vastly increasing his military power. The remaining Gallic nobles flee to Al-Andalus, using their remaining wealth to lobby for the Sultan's support. He does not seem very forthcoming.

-An officer corps is established, although its reliance on the old feudal system means that only those of noble blood can even enter the ranks.

Bravdaz Family (TillsterRulz)
Tech: Printing (80%), Steam Power (30%), Gunpowder (60%)

-Kiev is invaded and promptly crushed. What territory could be occupied in the war was annexed, as there was no Kievan military capability remaining to oppose the move.

-The Mamluks are made a focus of trade, giving their Aral Sea port a significant distinction. They continue raising larger armies and carve out a significant domain for themselves. They are now only nominally loyal to the Bravdaz, and essentially have a state of their own.

-Lithuanian diplomats have approached Opus with a general alliance offering.

The Council of Cheswick (Crimeariver)
Tech: Gunpowder, Steam Power (40%), Scientific Theory (40%)

-Support is sent to the Central Empire to fight the Gallic rebellion. With the combined forces of Hungary, the Imperials, and Cheswick, the Gauls are completely destroyed.

-A special edict is issued mandating the replacement of all fleet weapons with cannons and all infantry weapons with muskets.

-A military expedition ventures deeper into west Africa, establishing several outposts in the vast frontier. However, after a short time it has become evident that these forts could not become permanently garrisoned; the troops are struck with successive waves of Malaria outbreaks, and native attacks have worn down their resolve. The region was forced to become abandoned, and most outposts have since stuck to the coasts where they can be more quickly reinforced.

-Rebels in Ireland have only become more brazen, building fortifications and taking to the seas in little steamboats. Some members of the council are calling for decisive action before they grow too strong.

Sons of Liberty (Snickerway)
Tech: Steam Power (50%), Gunpowder(50%)

-Steam boats are being employed in a veritable rebel fleet, bringing news and supplies up and down the Irish river-ways. This is nothing close to being covert, but as of yet the authorities have not made moves to stop it.

-Fortifications are being built out of the less-trafficked storehouses.

The Central Guild (Triangle Mare)
Tech: Steam Power, Scientific Theory (10%), Gunpowder (50%)

-Grain imports from Poland-Lithuania, agreed upon with discounts to help with famine relief, have allayed the famine significantly and brought huge profits to the guild. A significant portion of this aid is, however, used to open up trade ways with Beothuk. A guild headquarters has been established there as a result.

-The education initiatives have expanded across the nation, with the Central Guild now controlling most of the nation's curriculum. A military school in the capital, the Royal Naval Academy, is built out of a much older university, to specialize in the training of naval officers. Other schools have turned a large focus upon the sciences, teaching a new "scientific method" to enlighten the people on how invention occurs and what drives the process from hypothesis to theory.

The Scribes of Confucius (Roy G. Biv)
Tech: Printing (50%), Steam Power (40%)

-The Scribes expand their fleet, using some of the latest developments in steam engines to power travel upriver.

-A colonization project is experimented with in Taiwan. Many locals, seeking to avoid the conscription and high taxes that come with civil war, have taken up the offer and moved to the island.

The Eyyik Tribes (You Are Reading This)
Tech:

-Sinühlään assumes the title of Great Khan, or Genghis Khan. In celebration he has led the front of a military parade column straight into Beijing.

-Another invasion, led by the Khan's son Temür, has completely overtaken Korea.

-An order from the great Khan has made it clear that China's infrastructure is to be spared, on pain of death for those who ransack too much. As a result, looting has been sparing; the tribes are unappreciative, although it does motivate them to conquer more land so that they can do such low-intensity looting over a wider territory.

-The various ports of Korea are ordered to construct a fleet. Soon, Mongol ships are spotted off the coasts of Japan and Hokkaido, testing their capabilities.

-The Manchu tribes, having long sent tribute to the Chinese emperor, have now begun sending tribute to Genghis Khan instead. Many in the north view this act, combined with Eyyik victories and conquests, as a symbolic transfer of the Mandate of Heaven into Eyyik hands.

The City of Ionia (CrowTheMagician)
Tech: Printing (80%)

-Further influence over Japanese culture is exerted through the syncretization of Shintoism and Infinitism and the assertion of women's rights. These ideas are not embraced by the whole of the country, and hardline conservatives in the nobility have begun cracking down on the censorship of Ionian manuscripts, with some completely banning all publications in their territories.

-Scholars have been sent to China to bring together Chinese and Ionian culture as part of a research project for further union of Ionian with Japanese. Chinese and Japanese studies have become even more popular as the Ryukyuan port expands its trade, which demands knowledge of both languages to make exchanges with those people.

-One of the Chinese concepts, the imperial examinations, has been proposed to the Japanese emperor, who has agreed to take the first steps in implementing them in his administration. Ionia has done the same, allowing for the basis of a meritocracy in both countries.

How rich is the Guild, approximately? Does it have a virtual monopoly on trade, since that's how it looks like (which would probably mean being richer than the Dutch in their prime, oy vey), or…?

The Synod would like to formally send an invitation to the leaders of Haida, Chilcotin, and Blackfoot to integrate their governments and land into the great nation of Alaska. We offer welfare -- and the general greater safety a larger nation provides -- to all their citizens.

@Some Guy From Temessee,

I'm calling on you to send military aid to Hungary in its war against the Anti-Hungarian Coalition (Bulgaria, Byzantium, Athens).

They are a valuable ally and if they begin losing momentum in conquering the Balkans me and you will be the ones getting the backlash when they fall especially since you are a Celestial faith nation.

I am only bringing this threat to your attention, if you do not want to fight then don't, it makes little difference to me.

Also Cheswick has the emperors gratitude for the assistance granted in taking out the rebellion.

@Taryn

Haida has agreed to the proposal, partly out of fear of conquest and partly due to cultural similarity and cordial relations. They are now part of a protectorate territory within Alaska. The other nations are insulted by the prospect of losing sovereignty, and decline the invitation. The offer of welfare, being extended towards their citizens, has fueled the grassroots pro-Alaskan movements in their countries.

A new map of the area:

@Laika

Encouraged by the Empire's diplomatic moves on their behalf, the Hungarians have issued a statement declaring their intention to go to war with the coalition this coming turn.

The Synod welcome the people of Haida and send wishes of good luck and prosperity to the people of Chilcotin and Blackfoot. We will revisit the issue at a later date.

Just out of curiosity Syndic, why wasn't I able to establish a colony in the Hudson Bay? I assume it was due to conflict between the Cree and Inuit in the area.

Somehow I missed that part of your PM. I'll retcon it in.

There it is.

completely destroyed the Ruthenian state.

They are now only nominally loyal to the Bravdaz, and essentially have a state of their own.

Well as long as they don't get too advanced on their own that's fine

Lithuanian diplomats have approached Opus with a general alliance offering.

I'll accept that

Ofcourse, point me in the right direction and I will do what I can.

Not unless you're willing to spread your forces even thinner.

This won't be one of those one-turn rebellions. Are you really willing to waste your forces on a lengthy siege of Ireland while half of Europe is on the warpath against you?

I can't defeat you personally, but I'm prepared to defend indefinitely. If you attack, all I have to do is wait until your enemies take advantage of your split forces and destroy you. Are you really willing to risk everything on attacking a rebellion that poses no direct threat to you?
