So I was thinking about the ecconomical system of the Hunters, and I came up with a pretty decent their about it and it's history of evolution.
So long long ago the Hunters weren't paid for doing their job, actually they also hate their job, reason for this, they were hobos and orphans who were given a weapon to protect people (probably that was their only worthy possession), since around that time there were no Academies to teach people how to fight and only a lucky few could unlock their Aura, this profession was a disaster. Until the 4 Hunters shown up, who founded the 4 kingdoms (and probably got named after them so they go as), Vale, Vacuo, Mistral and Mantle (since Atlas was originally Mantle until the end of the Great War), they also founded the Academies and probably cause of them we have teams made up of 4 people.
So great and all, now people know how to fight and unlock Aura, but the ecconomy is still a shit, and they are still forcing hobos and orphans to go to Academies to defend people. (Why them though? Cause no one cares if a homeless without family dies. A sad truth…) However, now people are willing to pay sometimes for the Hunters' services, like a sign of gratitude. Fun, yay!
However even this had issues. Some were willing to pay, some didn't. Some hunters got money, some stayed poor. Some Hunters were willing to burn down a village if they didn't get money and Some villages rather let the Grimms ravage their houses than have to deal with an angry greedy Hunter. So in short, this was a clusterfuck.
Fast forwarding a few hundred years, finally got enough of Hunters' and Villages' bullshits, the Governments and the Huntsman Acadmies made a system, now the villagers no longer have to pay for Hunters' services, instead this got incorporated into the tax system, so now Hunters save villages thanks to the tax payers' money! Of course this is how the Academies are funded and so the Hunter Society which puts up missions for graduated hunters. Of course unlike a banker or a florist, Hunters get only payment if they do missions, no mission done, no money. Of course you get Hunter aid, if you happen to loose a leg to an Ursa. But thanks to this tax, which we can call Generic Protection Tax, the Hunters can always stay combat ready, and will be there to help you, whenever you need it!
