About
$50 Whatever You Want Baby is an exploitable image macro used in a series of memes in which a prostitute, standing outside of the driver's side window of a car, tells a man she'll do whatever he wants for $50 as he asks her to do something funny and non-sexual, like cut his hair or tell him she's proud of him. The earliest example of the meme was posted to FunnyJunk in 2015 and became popularized throughout the 2020s on sites like Facebook and Reddit. The captions are associated with several images, including artwork from Grand Theft Auto V.
Origin
On November 24th, 2015, FunnyJunk[1] user mudkiper posted an image macro using a photo of a prostitute standing outside a driver's window, captioned, "I met a prostitute who said she'll do anything for $50, guess who's got his front porch repainted," garnering over 520 thumbs-ups in eight years. On April 20th, 2020, Facebook[2] page 102.5 The Bear Waco's Rock Station posted a similar meme where the man asks if she cuts hair, garnering over 290 shares in three years (shown below, left and right). This is the earliest known post, although may not be the original.
On May 1st, 2020, Redditor theskuffy posted a version of the meme using a similar image, this time a drawing of a prostitute propositioning a man, to /r/forwardsfromgrandma,[3] garnering over 5,500 upvotes in three years (shown below). This image became one of the most popular going forward in future iterations of the meme.
Spread
The meme spread over the following months, inspiring new variations. On May 11th, 2020, Instagram[4] user mathematicsforlife posted a version of the meme that gained over 5,000 likes in three years. On August 24th, Twitter[5] user @ScottyArtz posted a version of the meme referencing Avatar, garnering over 161,000 likes in the same rough span of time (shown below). The meme was reposted to Facebook[6] the next day, garnering over 10,000 reactions and 5,600 shares.
On October 22nd, Facebook[7] user Depressed Doge posted a doge version of the meme, garnering over 3,400 shares and 3,000 reactions in three years. On May 21st, 2021, Redditor sombreroman217 posted a version of the meme to /r/memes[8] that gained over 49,000 upvotes in two years (shown below, left). On May 24th, Redditor authorsofwrestling posted a version of the meme using an image from Grand Theft Auto V to /r/gaming,[9] garnering over 148,000 upvotes in two years (shown below, right). The meme gained viral spread on sites including Facebook.[10]
The Grand Theft Auto variant continued to see regular use over the following months alongside the other formats. On April 4th, 2023, Redditor TheRealSteamedHams made a post to /r/memes[11] using the image that gained over 22,000 upvotes in three weeks (shown below). On April 6th, Instagram[12] user memes reposted it, garnering over 39,000 likes (shown below).
