About
Black LED Lights, also known as This is What We Mean by Black LED Lights, refers to a slew of discourse caused by a TikTok video shared by user @jetty._wetty, who asked, "Why aren't there black LED lights?" His video went viral in April 2025, causing many reactions to his idea. Many believed that he was being unintelligent, as the idea of black LED lights seemed impossible, and those people shared memes, making fun of him for being dumb. The TikToker's video could have also been Rage Bait to get attention. The idea of Black LED Lights was originally discussed in December 2024 by another TikToker.
Origin
On December 14th, 2024, TikToker[6] @kirkiimad posted a video with text reading, "BLACK LED LIGHTS. I've never seen them IRL [in real life], but can imagine in my head. Do they actually exist??" His video received over 17,000 likes in four months (shown below).
By the laws of physics, black can not be emitted as a light source.

The idea largely resurfaced on April 14th, 2025, when TikToker[1] @jetty._wetty shared a video in which he asked, "Why aren't there black LED lights?" He said, "You're telling me we have red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, grey, brown, white, but no black LED lights?" The video received over 1.5 million likes in 13 days (shown below).

On April 16th, 2025, TikToker[2] @soskaryy who gave a representation of what Black LED Lights might look like and used the Let Me Know sound. gaining over 525,800 likes in 11 days (shown below).

On April 25th, TikToker[3] @armordust posted a video with text reading, "Finally got black LED lights." The joke was that they turned off the lights, showing their room in pitch black. Over two days, the video received roughly 10,600 likes (shown below).

On April 26th, 2025, TikToker[4] @5thgennn posted a scene from the comedy film Dumb and Dumber, adding a text caption that read, "'This is what we mean by black LED lights,'" to mock the people promoting the idea. In a day, the video received over 90,800 likes (shown below).
