Bold of You to Assume is a snowclone popular on Tumblr which is typically used in sarcastic posts and is followed by a humorously self-evidently true statement.
Origin
On October 10th, 2017, Tumblr user draeneis[1] made a text post that read:
someone: coca cola can remove rust from metal imagine what its doing to your body
me: pff getting rid of the rust idiot
On March 20th, 2018, responding to several Tumblr users who reblogged the post without appearing to get the joke, draeneis responded to the discourse, "bold of you to assume I have blood." The post gained over 287,000 notes[2] (shown below).
Precursor
Prior to the format spreading on Tumblr, Dril made a tweet on July 24th, 2014[3] which read "awfully bold of you to fly the Good Year blimp on a year that has been extremely bad thus far." It proved to be one of the account's most popular tweets, gaining over 24,000 retweets and 35,000 likes (shown below).
Spread
After draeneis' post, the format grew popular on Tumblr. The day following their post, user zagreus[4] made a joke using the format reading, "'when’s your birthday?' awfully bold of you to assume that i was born", gaining over 33,000 notes.[4] On June 16th, 2018, user yiffmaster[5] posted "most tumblr jokes are utterly embarassing to say in public but today i said to someone 'bold of you to assume i have dignity' and i won’t lie it was the most powerful I’ve felt in years," gaining over 288,000 notes. The format also grew popular on the /r/tumblr subreddit. For example, a screenshot of such a post posted to /r/tumblr on September 25th, 2018 gained over 7,200 points (shown below, left). Twitter user @ubsticky included a "bold of you to assume" post in a thread of Tumblr posts that gained over 2,100 retweets and 3,500 likes (shown below, right).
Additionally, an alignment chart parody circulated through Tumblr in 2018 which included a "bold of you to assume" category (example shown below, left). The phrase "bold of you to assume I fear death" also became associated with Isabelle after her inclusion in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate (shown below, right).
