About
Bugs Bunny Sawing Off Florida is a reaction gif made from the Looney Tunes short "Rebel Rabbit", which was released on April 9th, 1949.[1] The gif has since been edited to include other states, countries, and even continents. It is also often used in response to Florida Man news posts.
Origin
The Looney Tunes short "Rebel Rabbit" involves Bugs Bunny becoming angry that his bounty was so low compared to other forest creatures, so he goes to the game commissioner in Washington D.C. to figure out why. The commissioner states that rabbits aren't nearly as destructive as the other animals, so Bugs sets out across the United States to wreak enough havoc to get his bounty raised. One of these acts involves Bugs sawing off the state of Florida, and sending it to South America (clip shown below).
