Damn I Messed Up, We Gotta Go Bald is a viral video in which a barber tells a boy that he messed up his haircut and he's going to have to go bald, resulting in the kid crying. The video was first uploaded to Twitter by @ChamptheBarber in February 2019 and went viral over the following years, inspiring animations, edits and artwork referencing it, also seeing use as an original sound on TikTok in the 2020s.

Origin

On February 25th, 2019, Twitter^[1] user @ChamptheBarber posted a video in which he pranks a child whose hair he's cutting by saying, "Damn I messed up, we gotta go bald," resulting in the child getting up a crying, garnering over 193,800 likes and 67,000 retweets in four years. A closer cropped version of the video was reuploaded to YouTube^[2] by OGLF the next day, garnering over 46 million views in four years.

Spread

The video gained viral spread over the following years. On March 1st, 2019, Facebook^[3] page The Hook posted it, garnering over 372,000 views in four years. On September 25th, 2020, YouTuber^[4] sean posted an edit of the video adding the I like ya cut, G clip to the end, garnering over 439,000 views in three years (shown below).

On February 14th, 2022, iFunny^[5] user Doxxyl posted a piece of artwork inspired by the video, garnering over 890 smiles in a year. On August 15th, Facebook^[6] page Evil Niqqa Memes 3 posted a meme referencing the video, garnering over 1,500 reactions and 680 shares in a year (shown below, left). On August 27th, Instagram^[7] user animals_101qa posted an image macro of a cat under the caption, garnering over 23,200 likes in a year (shown below, right).

That day, the video was reuploaded by TikToker^[8] @bruhdlidlman5672, garnering over 23 million views in a year. The original sound was used over 4,900 times in that span of time. Some of the most popular videosunder the sound, posted to TikTok^[9][10] throughout 2022 and 2023, show users cutting the hair of their anime plush figures and making them bald (examples shown below).
