The promotional video features clips of people discussing the laptop controversy and announces a launch date of September 9th, 2026. The post gained over 13,000 likes and 3,400 reposts in a day.

Hunter Biden's meme coin garnered considerable backlash online in early September 2026 as word of it spread.

On September 7th, 2026, X^[2] user @coffeebreak_YT, the account of YouTuber Coffeezilla, posted, "After months of calling out Trump corruption, Hunter Biden is launching his own shitcoin called LAPTOP. Do not buy it," gaining over 20,000 likes in a day.

Some skeptics, who see meme coins as scams, were disappointed that Biden would launch a meme coin after attempting to rehabilitate his image.

For example, on the night of September 7th, X^[3] user and YouTuber Brandon Buckingham posted, "I love that popular creators had Hunter Biden on their channels to rehabilitate his image just for him to turn around and drop a pump and dump shit coin LOL," garnering over 6,800 likes in a day.

Channel 5 Mailing List Controversy

On September 7th, 2026, Channel 5, a YouTube channel run by Andrew Callaghan, posted a statement across their social media pages^[4] denouncing Biden's meme coin. In the statement, they admit that they gave Biden their mailing list in a CSV sheet, saying he could use it when he "launched a new product."

On X, they added to the statement via a comment, "ALSO: emails from Hunter’s team have not gone out to any of our public subscribers, we were able to get all info completely removed from list before blast was sent."
