Overview

Kai Cenat's Cameraman ChrisV Grooming Allegations refers to accusations that Twitch streamer Kai Cenat's cameraman ChrisV knowingly messaged a minor in late 2021 and early 2022. The victim posted a thread on X / Twitter in late July 2024 exposing screenshots and message chats allegedly showing text messages between her and Chris. Cenat did a livestream shortly after the accusations were made, confirming that the messages were real. The allegations also sparked a viral debate and some jokes and memes on X, Reddit and TikTok.

Background

On July 30th, 2024, X^[1] user @uno2dolo posted a thread on X showing messages sent by Kai Cenat's cameraman ChrisV (@_Chrismedia) between December 2021 and early 2022, accusing him of grooming her while she was underage, alleging that Chris knew she was 17 years old at the time.

The victim has since deleted the thread and privated her account, however, several X accounts shared screenshots of the posts, like X user @scubaryan's tweet^[2] (seen below), writing, "AMP cameraman 'ChrisV' is currently being called out for allegedly being inappropriate with a minor that is 17 years old." The post also shows two screenshots of Instagram messages sent by Chris, which amassed more than 57,000 likes and 2,700 reposts in a day.

According to the X^[3] page @DramaAlert, the victim also claims that she reached out to Kai Cenat and his team multiple times but received no response (seen below).

Complex Mistakes ChrisNxtDoor For ChrisV

On July 30th, 2024, the entertainment and fashion publication Complex tweeted about ChrisV's grooming allegations but used an image of Kai Cenat alongside influencer ChrisNextDoor, also known as AMP Chris, instead of ChrisV, quickly sparking a backlash online.

That day, X^[5] user @CFC_REC shared a screenshot of the tweet and the website's article (both have since been deleted), writing, "This lawsuit is about to hit. Biggest defamation of character I’ve seen and from a big company like Complex?" The post (seen below) amassed over 14,000 likes and 687 reposts in a day.

Influencer ChrisNextDoor^[6] then replied to the deleted Complex tweet, saying, "Complex delete this pic of me rn. and take down this article do research before you type something up. Shit not cool." The tweet (seen below) amassed more than 3,200 likes and 140 reposts in a day.

Kai Cenat's Response

On July 31st, 2024, Kai Cenat addressed his cameraman's grooming allegations via a livestream, confirming the evidence given by the victim was real. X^[4] user @scubaryan_ shared a clip from the stream (seen below) that day, amassing more than 7 million views and 123,000 likes in a day.

ChrisV's accusations sparked a series of videos and jokes on social media debating and discussing the grooming allegations. For example, on July 30th, 2024, TikTok^[7] user @viralvideogameclipss posted a video (seen below) of streamer Agent explaining the whole incident, which amassed more than 1.2 million plays and 17,000 likes in a day.

On July 31st, TikTok^[8] user @streamercompz posted a video of streamer Adin Ross reacting to Kai Cenat's video about the controversy (seen below, right), amassing over 517,000 plays and 36,000 likes in a few hours.
