About
Gerald the Dolphin or Florida Man Kidnapped by Dolphins refers to a viral hoax claiming that a Florida man had been kidnapped by a dolphin named Gerald and was forced to help build an underwater city for highly intelligent dolphins. The story, which was derived from a satirical Facebook post, spread quickly across social media platforms, particularly TikTok in early to mid-March 2026. While most reactions and "discourse": surrounding the story were sarcastic or ironic, some also used it to fuel conspiracy theories about dolphins being advanced and plotting against humanity.
Origin
The story of Gerald the Dolphin and his human captive is sourced from a satirical post published on The Dude Humor Report, a Facebook account that posts satire and parody stories, on March 4th, 2026.[1] The post garnered over 8,100 reactions, 5,900 shares and 2,600 comments in roughly two weeks.
