What Pride Flag Is That? or So Are You Like Gay Or Something? refers to a webcomic depicting a woman hanging an Italian flag on her wall, her roommate asking her, "What pride flag is that?" The comic became the subject of edits in late May and June 2022 as users photoshopped the flag with different images.

Origin

The original webcomic has been deleted from @sarahmhops social media accounts or made otherwise private, as her Twitter^[1] and Instagram^[2] accounts are private and the comic doesn't appear available on her website.^[3] The earliest available upload is a repost to /r/dankmemes^[4] posted by Redditor WatcherBlue on May 31st, 2022, gaining over 29,200 upvotes in three days (shown below).

Spread

The comic inspired several variations over the following days. On May 31st, 2022, Redditor Anthony-Minimum-4984 posted a template for the format to /r/MemeEconomy,^[5] gaining over 7,700 upvotes in three days (see templates). The same user posted a version of the meme to /r/MemeEconomy^[6] replacing the flag with the fire nation flag from Avatar: The Last Airbender, gaining over 1,800 upvotes in three days (shown below).

On June 2nd, Facebook^[7] page Riker's Beard posted a version of the meme using a Star Trek flag, gaining over 2,400 reactions and 400 shares in a day (shown below, left). On the same day, Redditor GallowJr posted a version to /r/jerma985^[8] referencing Jerma's Dollhouse Stream, gaining over 2,700 upvotes in a day (shown below, right).
