Go To The Thrift Store That's Where The Heat Is refers to a series of videos on TikTok where users film a strange or bad item, often a shirt or piece of clothing, found in a thrift store over a variation of the caption and catchphrase "go to the thrift store that 's where the heat is" using sped-up audio from the Brain Aneurysm animation. The trend was popularized on TikTok in January 2022, increasing in virality over the course of the year.

Origin

The earliest known video following the trend was posted by TikToker[1] @larosa.antigua on January 20th, 2022, garnering over 2.1 million views in five months (shown below). The video is captioned, "'Go to the Goodwill bins, that's where the heat is,'" followed by a video of a shirt with a low-quality face on it.

Spread

The trend spread under the same sound over the following months. On February 6th, 2022, TikToker[2] @bellasfellas posted a video showing another bad shirt, gaining over 10.3 million views in four months (shown below, left). On March 7th, TikToker[3] @ayewalker39 posted a version of the trend showing a knockoff Gucci shirt, gaining over 14.7 million views in three months (shown below, right).

On June 3rd, TikToker[4] @samiam.s posted a video following the trend where they show off a sweater with the word "cum" written on it in the Doom font, gaining over 1.1 million views in three weeks (shown below).
