About
Goose Chasing Guy is an exploitable meme template from a webcomic originally posted by Jimmy Craig, creator of They Can Talk comics. The template shows a line drawing of a goose chasing a man wearing a goose-down puffer jacket and repeatedly asking him a question. The original comic was first uploaded in November 2020, with variations appearing soon after, particularly object-labeling memes.
Origin
On November 29th, 2020, comic artist Jimmy Craig posted his original webcomic captioned "feathers" to his Instagram,[1] website,[2] as well as the subreddit /r/comics.[3] The post gathered over 86,000 likes on Instagram and 31,000 upvotes on Reddit in roughly two and a half years (seen below).
Spread
Sometime before January 1st, 2021, the comic was edited and reposted by the Russian meme page "Dr. Vagimir," who added his watermark and changed the text in the comic (seen below, left).[4] Dr. Vagimir's watermark can be seen on an edited version of the meme posted by Facebook user Kendall Toth (seen below, right) [5] and on subsequent posts on iFunny and Imgur.[5][6][7]
On November 30th, 2021, the Facebook[8] page The Revolutionary's Garden posted a version of the meme, gathering over 500 reactions in two years (seen below, left). On June 19th, 2022, Facebook[9] user Travis Henville posted another version of the meme, gathering 200 likes in a year (seen below, right). The image was then reposted to /r/PoliticalHumor, where it gathered over 4,000 likes in a year.[10]
