The photo was uploaded by Instagram user @sazahu and gained virality in May 2026 as artists on Twitter / X used it as a redraw reference to draw other characters in the image as a meme format.

On April 30th, 2026, Instagram[1] user @sazahu uploaded a photo of a guy releasing insects in a classroom, with children running around crying and panicking after the bugs started chasing them. The caption roughly translates to "I know more than 100 species of grasshoppers. Jean-Henri Fabre, Public Domain." The post received more than 6.4 million likes in two weeks.

On May 10th, 2026, Twitter / X[2] user @entomemeology reposted the photo and received more than 73,000 likes and 7,100 reposts in three days.

The photo gained virality in May 2026 after the artists on Twitter / X began using it as a redraw reference to draw other characters.

For example, on May 12th, 2026, Twitter / X[3] user @kwasobi_W uploaded Project Sekai fan art using the photo as a reference. The post received more than 22,000 likes in one day.

The community started to create fan art based on the photo as it continued garnering attention. For instance, on May 12th, 2026, Twitter / X[6] user @BlaParky uploaded fan art of Shiori Novella with other talents using the photo as a reference. The post received more than 16,000 likes in one day.

Some people started calling out that the photo was made using AI amid its virality in mid-May 2026, drawing backlash and disappointment from many.

For example on May 13th, 2026, Twitter / X[9] user @zishen44 quote-retweeted @bahamutts' with the caption, "ts is ai im k-lling myself." The post received more than 67,000 likes in less than a day.


The Aftermath

On May 11th, 2026, the same Instagram[7] user, @sazahu, uploaded the aftermath of the previous AI photo, showing a child grabbing the electric racket to hunt the insects, with the caption roughly translating to "Park So-young (10), the wife of a gangster from Asen." The post received more than 1.6 million likes in two days.



On the same day, Twitter / X[8] user @OomfieLoomfie reposted the photo while quote-retweeting @entomemeology's with the caption, "There's another pov ???" The post received more than 442,000 likes in two days.
