About

Hey Wacky Dawg, Say Something FUNNY! refers to a comic featured in the 2007 book Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The comic shows a kid asking "Wacky Dawg" to say something funny, to which the dog replies, "Actually, I have something serious on my mind today." The book's protagonist Greg talks about how a student named Brian Little had been "hogging" the comic slot in the school newspapers for years until he began to use his art to air out his personal grievances. In the late 2010s and early 2020s, the comic came to be used to joke about gimmick accounts that post out of character or used as an exploitable meme.

Origin

The original "Wacky Dawg" comic was first published in April 2007 as part of Jeff Kinney's young adult book series Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The in-story comic was drawn by Brian Little, one of Greg's schoolmates, for his school newspaper. However, Little was fired from his position after he began oversharing as shown in the comic below.[1]
